My new SSD arrived from ouck at work today :D I'm giong to do a fresh 7 64bit install tonight when i get home.

Other than updating the bios do i need to do anything else, I've had a quick google but I'm at work so i'm limited to what I can see.

I know 7 is supposed to be good on a SSD, so do I just let windows do its thing?

Thanks

Enable AHCI in BIOS, install Windows and then perhaps check for updated firmware for the SSD. The Windows 7 install should tailor itself to the SSD :)

No need to worry about firmware yet. The reason why there is no updates on thier site is becuase the 64GB model was produced later and ships with the latest firmware. The 256GB and 128GB came earlier and had perf issues which were ironed out with updates.

i couldnt get the vertex to install windows 7 or xp unless i turned off ahci mode

tried million different things tbh

the ich10r controller does not need drivers on windows 7

the board was a p5q

Just installed Windows 7 on my Vertex 2E I got today (P5Q Pro Turbo, AHCI on). First time it seemed to install but then wouldn't boot.

So I reinstalled, but made some changes: First I changed the SATA port I used. I swapped the DVD and SSD SATA ports. Second I created a new partition on the SSD myself instead of just leaving it unallocated space and clicking next.

just done mine on intel ssd, no probs at all. i really cant believe how fast ssd's really are! windows loading cut by 3/4 from 2 mins to about 30 seconds give or take and programe loading is amazing

Got mine done in the end last night, the first install didnt work proprly (not sure why, just really ustable)

2nd time lucky and WOW. So happy with it.

I've still got a long way to go to get it all back up and running.

thanks for the help guy.

Is there anything else I need to do to get the most out of it?

got my bigfoot vertex 2 installed and re booted with windows 7 also last night,

all went smoothly except my steam games list is like a week solid of constant downloads now :(

You realize you could have just Kept you're old drive in unplugged it install win 7 on SSD (so it loads boot up files) plugged the old drive back into the sata booted to the SSD and copied the short cut from steam onto the new OS of the SSD and all you're games would be there fine if ur really smart u can even dump all Favs folder and mydocs folders to a file in the old HHD and copied they to the new windows SSD it's a fresh install but you have everything u had in favs n games and not only that if u ever have a fail of ur SSD u can boot to the HDD vi a bio's boot up change and log into your old OS :).

Nice piece of advice but doing that would mean you would need 2 copies of windows 7?
