FSB to RAM ratio, 1:1 better? or faster RAM

What have people found work best?
I know a 1:1 ratio is ideal, but is it really? For example, if your CPU won't clock any further, yet your RAM will, what is best?
Keep a 1:1 ratio, (maybe underclocking RAM), or have RAM run faster than FSB?

I know timings don't make much difference on C2Ds, and apparently bandwidth does, but is it worth going with a divider to get faster speed ram?
 
AFAIK the Intel RAM bandwidth to the CPU is severely limited by the FSB speed which is why running RAM faster than FSB won't give you significant speed boost. However faster RAM will benefit performance of other components that directly access the RAM without going through FSB i.e. graphics card. Please do correct me if I'm wrong though.

If the case is that you can clock your RAM faster than your CPU, i'd keep the 1:1 ratio, as you won't lose any clock cycles. However, if you can clock your CPU faster than your RAM (most common), if the CPU overclock is significant, i'd clock the CPU higher as the brute force of a higher clocked CPU will make up for the lost cycles.

I think that's correct anyways :)

yep.....seconded. The use of memory dividers with A64 is a mute point. Back in the early 754/939 days guys tested extensively with both the use of dividers and 1:1 ratios. The final outcome was that the deficit is easily recovered with the higher OC.
 
Please Please help How do you get 1:1 devide.

I can get the cpu to 3gig but rated fsb in CPU-z reads very high 1280 + and on CPU-Z memory ratio reads 3:5 ???

I know nothing on overclocking, But i would like to get 3gig on cpu and keep my memory at 1066-1067 is this posible.

I have got to this speed but in windows it will freez? my memory is at 2.3v
and cpu at 1.4v :confused: :confused:
 
The 667 setting should be 1:1. I think that's the lowest divider on the P5K's.

Just go up through the dividers til you get one that runs your memory close to 1066mhz.

Well you were right "not that i could ever doubt you" So even though my memory is 1066 am i not losing out to slower ram timings?

So do i keep going up the dram timing till it does not crash.

Also on CPU-Z my SPD Max bandwidth reads pc6400 400mhz yet i bought pc8500 @1066 memory.

your help in this will be great. :)
 
Quite a lot of PC8500 reads as PC6400 in CPU-Z, mainly because it's mostly just good clocking PC6400.

And yeah go up through the DRAM Freq settings till you find the one that sets your memory closest to 1066mhz. It might end up a little below or a little above.
