Fuel price discussion thread (was ‘chaos’)

Lots of stations in east anglia are supplied by the depots in Thurrock which is where the protests were happening.

When those stations run out, everyone swarms the stations not supplied by that depot and they all run out.

Are there still protests going on? If not then it will just take a few days to catch back up like last time before getting back to normal.

Came home yesterday eve, after driving the car for the first time in a week. Needed fuel ahead of a drive to Wales and of 8 fuel stations I drove to, only 1 had fuel, which was petrol, not diesel :(

Looks like I won’t be going to Wales this weekend :o

My mate back home said Stoke is fine for both petrol & diesel whilst here near Kings Lynn there's £40 limits, lots of "bigger" stations closed etc. It's odd how it's can be effecting one city quite badly yet another just 2h30 away is fine.
You say "just" but they are literally about as opposite sides of the country as you can get :D

A quick splash and dash

I've got plenty of fuel for my own needs but a work trip annoyingly scheduled for a 6am departure on Tuesday, so I'll probably waste a chunk of my bank holiday weekend trying to track down fuel to use for work which will then be reimbursed back to me at about 75% the actual cost to myself... Hmm...

I’d be asking for a fuel card if you’re only getting 75% back. No way would I be paying out of my own pocket for work travel.

It isn't normally that bad. Unfortunately HMRC set their fuel rates (fixed for the following 3 months) just before the petrol prices went up. There is currently a 20p/L difference between the price they use for their calculation and the only place I've seen today with fuel  . My car getting 5 MPG below their applied figure doesn't help either.

So you’re effectively paying out of your own pocket. I’d at least be asking for the difference to be expensed or that your company provides a fuel card. Or they supply a vehicle for work only. Absolutely you should be paying out of your own pocket.

Although true, nobody complained when they made a profit up to the current 3 months....................

I think I may have been fractions of a penny under the ppm rate in the past when I had a diesel Focus but certainly nothing that could be considered a "profit".

Part of the problem is my car which is a few cc below the threshold for the next rate (1400 to 2000cc) so despite being a C segment estate it is reimbursed the same as if it were a Toyota Aygo.

It is what it is. I could make a fuss and I'm sure they'd come to other arrangements but I've always found it best to pick your battles when it comes to the workplace and this one isn't worth it. Also the problem is partly of my own making because I wanted a petrol to lower my BIK when, really, a diesel is far more suited to my jaunts up and down the country.

Its only 150 miles, I'm sure Cornwall to Scotland is further :D

Maybe if you cut-off Wales and Norfolk then Stoke and King's Lynn would be opposite sides horizontally but there's a whole lotta UK between "just left of centre" Stoke and any sea.

Still a lot of pumps empty here for regular unleaded and diesel. Premium petrol, at least, still in plentiful supply.

No queues and saw a tanker unloading. Looks like no panic, just continued short supply.

Thankfully didn’t have any issues getting fuel today. I ended up filling somewhere I knew had some, as I’d normally fill up at Costco but didn’t want to risk them not having any.

As it happens, all pumps were on and no queues around Bristol.

It's almost as if people are only willing to panic buy the cheap stuff. If they really needed it, the premiums would be dry too.

That said, the last petrol shortage taught me that we share this planet with people who probably shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

Crazy how is so localised, not a hint of any issues up here in the NW.
It’s very localised, here in Norfolk everything petrol station I have pass in Norwich this week whilst off work has had some kind shortage, mostly diesel. Had a few day out to the north Norfolk coast and each petrol station I passed was fine. So I am now thinking when I need to fill up again what will end of next week I may travel out of the city?
