how long until it goes off and the engine refuses to start nowadays? i remember it used to be months but i have a motobike with fuel in from last year and it still starts but how long have i got before it won't start?

ive been putting unleaded in my strimmer thats about 2 years old now its fine starts first time

When I was little, me and my grandad strapped a car dynamo and a Suffolk Colt lawnmover engine to a piece of plywood (looked pretty good actually!) to power the lights in a shed.

Anyway, about 3 years after we laid it up, it still started on the fuel in the tank... seems to last a while!

i thought you can get an additive that stops it going of if you are worried?

Surely it's dependent on contaminants? i.e. corroded metal (**** tank), that sort of thing, maybe impurities too - which aren't necessarily predictable?

Should start on fuel thats years old, won't always run well tho, might det a bit

My Anglia sat for over a year and it started and ran fine. Not sure what the fuss is about, especially since it's got sky high compression, twin carbs and a wild cam.

If you're really worried stick a few cans of fresh petrol in with the old stuff to 'dilute' it.

It's more likely to not start because the fuel has drained out the lines back into the tank.

Our Honda outboard motor usually runs sick in the spring on fuel from last autumn.
