Fx8350 to i3-8100

FFS,I have mates with slower FX6300 CPUs which are fine for web browsing and gaming. I web browse perfectly fine on the second machine at home - an old A6 3670K based system. Look at Steam and you can kind of glimpse the level of many gaming rigs.

OP,if you want a good upgrade just save up a bit more money and look out for a deal on Core i5 8400 or a Ryzen 5 1600. The cheaper CFL motherboards are out next year and also as mentioned before DDR4 pricing is also not great currently.

Also this not even take into consideration what graphics card the OP has either.

the 8100 as a good solid 4 cores so how would the ryzen 1200 be better because it has 4 cores?

Wait, why say it like that? i didn't say anything at all about the 8100, but if you must know there is nothing wrong with it, its just locked and more expensive.

The AM4 platform is also an upgrade path for newer CPU's, Ryzen+ Ryzen 2 ecte.... Z370 dies with the CPU

It's also most likely going to be faster than a 4Ghz R3 1200 (if you can even get it to 4Ghz).
And as far as upgrade path goes, so will 1151v2 since you can always pop in an 8700K later down the road or a locked 8700 if you wait for the cheaper boards to launch.

Personally with DDR4 prices what they are, I'd suggest OP waits it out/saves a bit more and decides later on rather than spending a few hundred £ to upgrade to an i3 or R3.
For web browsing and occasional gaming the FX should be alright still, a GPU upgrade might bring more of a benefit than a CPU one, albeit the FX is going to be a bit of a bottleneck.

Maybe not a downgrade but definitely a sidegrade. Its not worth the outlay. Save and make the upgrade worthwhile.
