G4WL - worse than I was expecting

Anyone here that doesnt have sympathy for the people whose GFWL client doesnt work as it should, should seriously pull their heads out of the sand and do some research before just spouting the usual, "stop complaining it works fine, you're PC is the problem" crud.

Let them vent, it doesnt harm you, so what high ground do you possibly hold?

And FYI I dont have any problems with it, but its clear for an idiot to see that a lot of people do.

GFWL has never given me any troubles, and I don't mean to dismiss those who are having issues, but can't you just click offline profile to avoid all this hassle?

I'm not trying to be patronising here, it's a genuine question.

I cant stand windows live.

Sick of having to sign into 3rd partys just to play a bleedin game.

I got batman AA on steam and I just find windows live intrusive. I have to sign into it so i can save my progress in a game.

I've had on and off successes with it, I know it's not likely to be much past the program itself, some games work with it, others have problems like simply trying to play with a friend. In the end I often find work arounds thanks to our pirate friends.

But there are enough people complaining about it here, let alone other communities/friends etc for me to realise it's not that great compared to similar software.
I try avoid it if I can.

You hate third partys controlling your games, but you bought the Steam copy instead of retail... Ooookaaaay.

My biggest issue with GFWL is that they care so much about protecting their precious achievements system that Microsoft encrypt your save games and lock them to your OS, not just your gamertag.

I found out about this the hard way when I upgraded to Windows 7 and found that most of my GFWL save games were now mysteriously corrupt. I tried all the various supposed fixes, but nothing worked. Contrast that with Steam where I could just copy my entire steamapps folder onto my new OS install and they worked, plus Steam automatically downloaded the save games and settings for Steamcloud enabled games.

It might seem like a glaring contradiction:p but with steam you dont really notice that its there after you have had it for a while.

and in anycase steam dosent really control your games once youve fired them up.

I have NEVER had a single problem with it. Nor do I ever expect to :).

Nice to read another GfWL bashing bandwagon thread though. They never get old.

Oh and you have to fully star out your swearing. Wouldn't want your pathetic rant to get you suspended now, would you? :)

Maybe they never get old because the software is still horrific, idiot? Oh and you should fully star out your post, wouldn't want anyone to actually read your opinion

I own just one G4WL game, which is Fallout 3. That one experience with it has put me off any titles that use it.

How is it a bandwagon if the guy is having genuine issues?

If anything, the fact that it crops up so often is just proof that the system is inherently flawed, surely?

Just because you're not having problems, doesnt mean they dont exist. In fact, the exact flipside of the coin you're tossing.

Steam as a distribution platform is not really the same thing as GFWL/EA account management systems, though. Plus I kind of agree, having to sign up to external websites to play games is irritating. Even for the bioware stuff like DAO. Still, is mildly ironic.

On the contrary, I think it highlights just how well Steam has managed to do it, in that people don't even see it as an inconvenience.

Whereas the mere mention of GFWL puts your nerves on edge, because you just know it's not going to be straightforward :)
