i'm going to ignore all the drivel and off topic posts that litter these kind of threads and just answer the op's question...
"My question is this : Is the Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "Phantom" worth the extra money or is the OcUK GeForce GTX 580 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card just as good ??
1920x1200 you do not need the extra vram. 1GB+ will be plenty on whichever card you go for on a single display at that res.
I run multi displays at larger displays and for me the Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "Phantom" was the perfect solution as i'm not into multi GPU's AS to whether the OcUK GeForce GTX 580 3072MB is just as good as the phantom i would seriously doubt it. Gainward GFX cards and their coolers and non reference cards are highly regarded and you pay a premium for that. Not to mention this time Gainward have pulled off a thing of beauty and to many the extra cost for the aesthetics alone would be worth it without the better cooling and being quieter.
For your purpose i would say no need for a 3gb card unles you are going duel or tripple 27"/30" high res monitors.
