So i got my gainward gtx580 and it runs pretty cool (67C at 100% load)
But i still want to open it up and change the thermal paste, but i have no idea how to get this thing apart.

It has about 16 screws underneath but once they are all off its still solid as a rock.

Has anybody taken one of these cards apart yet? and if so can you tell me how?

If your unsure I really recommend you don't bother, you could end up breaking over £400 worth of kit.

There is a saying if its not broken, leave it alone.

Yer your right to be honest !

Ill leave it be untill someone has been able to take it apart without having to go out of there way ( like using a drill or some crazy stuff lol )

Once the cover is off, make sure the screws holding the heat sink on from the back are undone. If the heat sink does not come straight off, then very gently twist it from side to side until the compound loosens.

Although it drops straight off in the video it is probably because it has been removed before. I removed the cooler to put a water block on, it was stuck tight with the compound, I would not recommend taking it off unless you have a good reason.

67c is really quite amazing, what are you using to stress the card?

thanks for your replies guys :) you have all convinced me that i would be mad to take it apart so ill leave it :P

And jazzerman 67c was my max and i got that while running 3dmark06, i dunno if thats the best way to find the max temps but in games its usually a few degrees below that so :)

and thanks for the video link but my card is the gainward good edition so its different to take apart.
