So just finished dragon age (including soldiers peak and shale)

Looking for another game to get to follow it, a bit wary of rpg's as i don't think there are many which can follow in it's wake?

Mass Effect+ME2 maybe?
Fallout 3 might be worth a shot

I would definitely suggest a play through of Mass Effect, as its a complete masterpiece. Assasins Creed is also with a go - it can be a bit of a drag in places but the story is very intriguing, and I'm glad I struggled through my initial misgivings to finish it.

Erm, if you want a similar style of game (albeit more difficult to get to grips with) then you want Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2.
If you want real old school theres obviously Baldurs Gate but that might be a bit hard to get into now.
Never played it but i've heard Fallout 2 is very good (inb4 Tefal :p)

The abbreviation 'RPG' gets flung around far too much. Fallout 3 is great, as is Mass Effect, both have there flaws in that they're both about as Role Playing as Half Life is. Ok they have character development and morality and that sort of thing but theres not enough difference between being good or bad other than a couple of events. Same can be said for Oblivion.

I have run through Oblivion and the old Fall out's (except tactics which i wasnt too keen on)

Mass Effect it is :)

incidently anyone had a look at the Avatar game?

Fallout 1 &2

same p[people who made baulders gate.

Fallout 3 is a pale shadow of it's predecessors.

It's the COD:MW 2 of the Fallout universe.

I guess it depends on how you define RPG. For me, a game can still be an RPG even if it doesn't put a lot of focus if any on alignment.

In my view pretty much any story based adventure which features in-depth NPCs, character progression, inventory system and stats-based combat qualifies as an RPG.

Mass Effect is quite similar to Dragon Age in ways, not the combat but the way the story unfolds.

A lot of BioWare games follow the same dynamic, party members you can select & different conversation choices that change depending on party members.

I'd agree with this. The mechanics of a game define its genre for me. Mass Effect has levelling & character development, inventory systems & loots, heavy, plot-driven story, all things that an RPG should have. Same with Fallout 3 - both present themselves with an FPS face, but the core is RPG, without any doubt.

Definitatly Mass Effect. Remember to keep your save games safe to carry them into Mass Effect 2 next year.

I personally didn't rate Fallout 3 that highly, it feels very clunky and the combat was pretty poor.

Wish they did change the engine as Oblivion had sub-par combat mechanics too and it carrys over to Fallout.

Well RPG stands for Role-Playing Game (as i'm sure you know ><). But a lot of it is just Role Playing 'Level Up' methods onto an FPS game. Fallout 3 is pretty slim as far as actual Role Playing goes, especially with the level 30 Cap where you only have a role for the first half of the game and eventually turn into a master of all skill lines.

Its the 1 problem with Bethesda RPGs... there comes a point in the game where you go from getting your ass handed to you to stomping everything into dust without breaking a sweat. The character development system always seems flawed. FO3 definatly more so than Oblivion/Morrowind.

A few other games jump to mind. The Witcher, Two Worlds, Risen, Sacred 1 and 2, Gothic 1-2-3, old classics like diablo 1 + 2, . I also like Titan Quest, Dungeon Siege.. actually I like anything rpg :D
