Gamecube to Monitor?

Is it possible to connect a Gamecube to my 19" iiyama Vision Master Pro 454?

I clearly need some VGA cable but am not sure what type?

You can't get a VGA cable for the Gamecube.

You will either need a VGA box, or a TV card to take the Cube's composite input.

Both will look awful on a 19".

Either use a TV or GFX card that allows video in, with this you can use the standard composite cable that comes with the cube, picture won't be great but it does the job.

Or if you dont mind spending a little cash, get yourself the RGB scart cable for the cube and then an RGB Scart to VGA converter box, results from this setup can be very impressive.

I have the Official Gamecube RGB scart cable. Will any generic scart to vga be ok?

Don't use scart to vga, use a component to vga converter, it supports progressive scan which means double the framerate and higher resolution. It looks far better.

It's possible to get a capture card with component in as well, but playing a console through a pc usually results in lag, you get the advantage of upscaling and postprocessing though when running through a pc.

Man they cost £53, more than I paid for my Gamecube.

You can get progrressive scan ones for £30.

rgb scart to vga converters cost about £60.

The only way to get decent quality video on the monitor is through component progressive scan to vga, not sure how many gamecube games support progressive scan though.

an eu gamecube does not support progressive scan so that s not an issue. Whilst a component input gives the best quality it will not give 480p on a UK gamecube.

Actually there was an official d-sub vga lead from nintendo i could link to a picture of it but its on a competitors site so i won't .

And you didn't necessarily need a US or Jap gamecube , you only needed a monitor that would accept and display an interlaced signal at 25(PAL) or 30(NTSC) hertz that the signal ran at or you wouldn't get a picture .Obviously US/jap cube had an advantage in that some games allowed you to switch to a 60hz progressive picture and you would then see it on screen on all monitors.

But its been a while since i've seen any monitors actually advertise that they accept an interlaced signal so i'm not sure if modern monitors still do.

another thing to bear in mind is Nintendo saw fit to remove the digital I/O port on later cubes so even if you could find a VGA or Component lead you may not be able to plug it into your cube.

Have to disagree with that, I've had my cube hooked up to both a 42" Plasma and a 19 LCD monitor via VGA from an RGB Scart source and the picture looks fantastic (Not HD standards but flippin good none the less).

Although I am using a pretty good convertor box and I think that makes the difference.
