Just woundering what games or apps that are known NOT to work yet with vista 64bit Ultimate version. Just im getting it soon and would like to know what i cant use on it yet.

Stalker with vista is quite difficult to get running well, flatmate could only run it on the lowest settings to get anything that resembled a reasonable framerate.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R runs the same on my copy of Vista as it did on XP, perceptually anyway. There may be a few FPS difference but it wasn't dramatically fast anyway on my PC anyway. :(

I can't get TDU to run with Crossfire enabled, just crashes to desktop instantly. It did that on XP for me too so....

NFS:C needs a bit of tweaking to get it to work.

Basically either set it to 98/Me compatibility mode (which will crash every so often) or rename the MOVIES folder to something else (so you won't get any in game cutscenes).

Personally I went the renaming route, as that way it hasn't crashed at all.

Wouldnt it be easier if you put games that DO work on vista. :p

Actually no it wouldn't. I have found that it's the newer games that have more issues with Vista. All my older games run first time, with no messing around.

The only one I've had trouble with out of about two dozen I've installed so far was KOTOR 2. Did manage to get around it, but it took me ages.

If you get your motherboard and graphics drivers installed correctly, you'll have very few problems. Vista won't look for mobo drivers from you, it'll usually install its own crappy ones. Once I realised this and downloaded proper ones from the manufacturer website, 90% of my problems just went away.

Edit - I'm just reminded from reading the Trackmania thread that games with Starforce copy protection won't run by default on Vista. You have to find a way around the copy protection or if it's on steam, use that version instead.

There is a Starforce updater for vista.

And TM:U on Steam comes with starforce. :)

But yes, older Starforce games wont work out of the box on Vista, you need the updater from the Starforce site to update the Starforce driver to a Vista compatible one.

You'll know if you need to do it because during the game's install it will say "unable to add device driver, would you like windows to check online for a solution?" or words to that effect, clicking yes should give you a link to the Starforce site, that part of Vista seems to work quite well actually. :)

I cant seem to get Team Fortress Classic to work on Vista for some reason. All the other games seem to work (although I have not tried any other HL1 stuff). Anyone aware of this problem or is it unique to me?

I cannot get stalker to run under Vista 64-bit  . Just comes up with XR3DA error when i start it.

Thats a copy protection problem not a vista problem, i had that on xp pro 32bit till i found a way around that. ;)

Hmm someone mentioned kotor 2 probs. Shame as thats a good game and i was gona play it once the new mod that restores cut content is out which should be soon.

Enabling large address aware on the BF2142 exe works, if you search the games forum, the same fix applied to stalker before the latest patch
