2500K or 3570K, doesn't matter.

Cuda has its advantages in a variety of programs, its not a blanket statement of "Cuda isn't as good as quicksync for assisting video encoding" at all.

I'm not against cuda, it is widely used by other software too. I just don't think the 460 was man enough for the OPs needs. I see you have suggested some stronger nvidia GPUs which would be more suitable.

I wouldn't suggest AMD for the mobo bundle. But the 7850 has more VRAM than say the 570 and once overclocked should close the gap in performance. The 7870 beats the 570 and is the same price but uses less power and runs cooler.

If the OP really wants cuda fair enough, I don't see the harm in discussing the options though. Sounds like he is close to putting a spec together, I look forward to seeing it :)

I think I may get the 7870 now. But do amd release frequent patches so new games work well with the graphics card.
All I need is to choose between i5 2500k, i7 2600k, i5 3570k or the i7 3770k. Also what motherboard should I get, I would like to overclockers only the processor to 4.0 ghz. So I need a motherboard that I can overclock on.
 
ATI have stopped doing their monthly Catalyst driver updates now.

So they will be doing it just like Nvidia, releasing them as needed, but I have had much easier time with Nvidia drivers than ATI and people also say vis-versa.

If you use programs that can benefit from Cuda (such as After effects) then its worth having.

Also the GTX570 is not a slow card at all, maxing out games like BF3 at 1080p while still smooth and silky.
 
Ok I almost have my final spec, all I need is help on what processor to get. I can afford the i5 and i7 sandy bridge and the i5 ivy bridge. Also what Radeon 7870 graphics card should I get?

I have decided to go with corsair vengeance low profile ram (which I hope is not tall) also do you know whether vtx3d are a reliable company that make decent changes to graphics cards.

RAM tends to be just RAM, the timings are similar, they have lifetime warranties, they are the same speed rating.

Just pick one that is low profile and cheap, maybe also colour matching the motherboard?

+1 To stulids recommendation on RAM and 7870 GPU.

We have discussed quicksync a little bit. If you aren't going to buy a GPU straight away you can still use quicksync whilst using the IGP, providing your software supports it. I think I mentioned earlier the standard nvidia 660 is rumoured to land next month, we could then see what's best bang for your buck then.

With RAM technically the lower the CAS timing the better. So C9 is better than C11 but in the real world it near as damn makes no odds. Geil is a recognised brand, I often spec the black dragon as it's good value and looks good on black mobos. The Geil EVO is good value too and I agree with stulid, it would blend in on that D3H mobo nicely :)

Quicksync with SB and IB i5K and i7K test results

I would go ivybridge. It consumes less power which is good for your PSU and bills. It does a lil more clock for clock (negates the SB overclock advantage), it also has a better IGP which helps quicksync as you can see in the link above.....Sorry stulid you were talking nonsense ;)

So that leaves you to decide wether you do enough editing to really warrant the i7. If the cost of an i7 is restricting your GPU budget, I think the i5K will suit you just fine and of course you can overclock it too :)

Looks like I shall get the i5k ivy bridge then, all I am going to do is wait around for the reviews of vtx3d's graphics card to come out.
