Hi guys.

I'm looking for a headset I can use for PC gaming and for my PS3 and 360.

I have been looking at the Razer Megalodon and Carcharias but I'm unsure as to whether they would work with my consoles?

Could someone let me know if they would and/or suggest some other products? Surround sound is a must.

Carcharias is stereo, and Megalodon is USB, so neither will be of any use with a console for surround sound. You will need something that can take optical from the consoles. I'm not sure if OcUK sell headsets that use optical. Turtle Beach X41, would such an example of what you are after.

An alternative would be something like an Astro A40 Mixamp, and stereo headphones or headset.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have just had a look at the Turtle Beach X41 and it seems to be made for the 360. Would it work with my PS3 as that's the console I use the most. I see that the audio would come through OK because of the optical input, but what about the use of the mic?

Either of the solutions Marsman mentioned should be fine. Alternatives to the Astro Mixamp are Victor SU-DH1 or Turtle Beach DSS.

The important features are decoding Dolby Digital 5.1 and encoding Dolby Headphone. If something can do that, it will work with the PS3 or 360.

For PC gaming you would need Dolby Digital Live to encode 5.1 over optical to use them though. Some motherboard include it - otherwise you'd need a capable soundcard.

Thanks for your input :) I'll have a good look around and see what I can find.

PC Soundcard wise I've got a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer although I don't know much about its capabilities.

X-Fi Xtreme Gamer is able to use Dolby Digital Live, but you need to purchase a software pack from Creative's US store to get it working. I think it's $5.
