Gaming Laptop Advice (Flimsy Lid Woes)

Hi All,

I've done a lot of homework via the web (this forum, YouTube and blog) on reviews for a well built gaming laptop, though I would appreciate any valuable real-world feedback from your good-selves if possible.

I bought an AORUS X3 Plus, which is a great and well specc'ed gaming laptop. However, the flimsy nature of the screen surround and hinges has meant that I've had to return it as the plastic screen surround in the bottom corner had started to split. See this video for an example of the click/crunching sound I started getting on the lid when opening and closing it - see 1:15min in the video (note: this is not my video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko5IxFyROJ8

I've opted for a refund (great after service from Overclockers as always), as unfortunately I can see this problem occurring again due the light/flimsy build of the screen casing, which is a shame as I like the laptop (also apart from the slightly at-times unresponsive touch pad).

So.... I am back out to market again for a gaming laptop, though this time I am adding a robust screen hinge and surround pre-requisite to my wish list, ie: the screen doesn't wobble too much when you type or move the laptop.

At the moment I am looking closely at the MSI and ASUS gaming laptops.

I am looking at spending up to £1800, and would appreciate any feedback on your experience with the build quality of any recent gaming laptops that you've recently owned or used.

As an aside, I am looking at the following approximate specification:

NVIDIA 900 series GPU
GPU memory 3GB+ (the more the merrier)
8+ GB memory (ideally 16GB)
256GB+ SSD (though would settle for a 128Gb and 1TB SAS config)
3K or 4K screen (I do a lot of graphical work also)

Any feedback much appreciated.

Thanks, :)

Simon
