Wanting to build a new rig, can someone spec me for a whole system. My budget is £1600, but could come up slightly more depending on the build. Not sure whether to go for a z77, x79 or an equivalent AMD any ideas?

The 2700K and the 7970 are on offer until tomorrow

The 2700K has hyper-threading which will help with the video editing, if you want to save some money go with a 3570K
The Monitor is more geared for gaming, you could swap it out for an IPS monitor which is better for doing photo editing.

It will be dependent on what you are doing more of, gaming with occasional editing on the side or the other way round.

Been looking at the Maximus Rampage IV Extreme board, do you think it would be overkill to pair it with a i5 3570k until prices of top-end i7's come down?

I used the ivybridge i5K, the nvidia 670 is a great GPU and it's CUDA support can help make up for losing hyperthreading from the i7.

Mobo is tiny but has everything you need inc. wifi, 16GB of RAM to help with your video editing etc. PSU is modular and gold rated. It's under budget so you can add better perphierals or speakers if you wish.

u cant use the h100 if you're gonna fit the optical drive. get the h80 instead.

I swear I saw a video review where they said the lid from the ceiling of the case could be removed and the rad fitted externally......I could be wrong though.

I was just bouncing ideas around. I saw after I posted he said he doesn't want to be limited by the mobo, so a mini-itx mobo is probably going to be dismissed anyway.
