Garden Tap - Low Pressure

Morning All,

Following on from here I seem to have intermittent low pressure to my garden tap.

I have confirmed it is not the tap, which was replaced around 9 months or so ago, by testing flow with it removed and it's no different.

Yesterday I replaced the Stopcock as it had leaked ever so slightly from the top thread since I moved in so was often shut-off except for when the garden tap was in use.

Initially this made no difference but after clearing some air from the system via taps & toilets in the house pressure seemed to have returned yesterday evening.

However this morning it is back down and possibly even lower than it was before. Taps, showers & toilets in the house are all fine and mains pressure is unaffected.

There is a double-check valve which is the only thing between the stopcock and the garden-tap but being inexperienced with plumbing I'm unsure if this is likely to be the issue? or if it's possibly just more air?

Thanks,

BennyC

I'd expect the check valve is not fully open or is faulty and not opening fully. It should be adjustable via the nut so have a fiddle.

You may need to adjust it while someone monitors the water pressure as quite often these valve have a central spindle, so if you go past the centre point you start to constrict the water flow again.

Once you've found the right point, make sure you mark it.

Thanks, I was planning on giving it a Russian kiss with a spanner too to see if perhaps some debris might shift.

Sounds like adjusting it is a simple case of turning the nut so I’ll see how that goes.

I did think I could thread a 15mm coupling on to the SC which would attach to the garden hose, bypassing the DCV and SC but that’s not necessary yet.

Check valve had disintegrated with parts stuck in the pipe between the SC and it and also it and the garden tap, which had 2 90 degree bends.

Got creative with a bike gear inner, outer housing and also using the borked CV to attach the garden hose which I then filled with water and blew through to flush out the restricted section of pipe.

All that was left...

Golden now

I was able to release a few Tectite fittings using an adjustable spanner and slipping it along the copper pipe to push the gripper/seal in.
