Is this any good? My parents have just come back from Halfords with it, I've had a big go at them for impulse buying before letting me do any research. It seems like a small, nifty easy to use little device but I've heard TomTom really are head and shoulders above the competition in the satnav field so am quite annoyed. It was £170 which they seem to think is a bargain as they were told it was on offer, is £170 a really cheap offer price or are they normally that price and how does it compare to the cheaper TomTom. Thanks.

I have a Nuvi 300 and much prefer it to the equivilent TomTom. It seems better built, I've never had any problems with the routefinding, it's easy to use.

I'd choose a Garmin unit over a TomTom any day, just because TomTom units are sold everywhere doesn't necessarily mean they are the best. Reviews on most GPS sites certianly don't claim TomTom is a better solution than much of it's competition.

Ah good good, it does seem alright, I was a bit UGH at first as I didn't even think it showed the speed you're travelling at but it does.

It also has a "Maximum Speed" in the trip computer so I'm going to go out after the F1 and get that into 3 figures lol

KEKEKE what a device I love it. Just been out and got a gps 101 mph maximum speed, travelled 26 miles in 20 odd minutes (don't have it in front of me for exact) with an average speed of 60 something mph. average lol, I was stopped at traffic lights for a while and there is a lot of traffic, gonna have some fun tonight.

There's a mainly nsl dc route I like to drive to get the most out of my car and this will actually allow me to time my runs now so I can do time trial and try and beat my highest average speed etc.

Awesome

Ive got the nuvi 300. Its a great piece of kit with some pois off the internet. Got speed cameras etc on it now and I picked it up for 170 from asda. Picked it purely cos it was a lot less bulky than the tom toms and as I do delivery driving I take it out when i deliver to dodgy areas.

Managed to get 114 gps speed from a lwb merc sprinter

edit ciggy lighter adapter is a load of cheap crap though, mine has broke 3 times in a month, gonna probably cut and shut one from another device.

Yeah I broke my cig lighter thingy too. It came apart in about 10 different pieces:o

Nuvi 300's are great, regular firmware and software updates also:) Check if you have v8 maps (settings, map, map info) as you can get the v9 ones for free on a DVD.

It's got the v9 maps and speed cameras which is very good :) It's known about everyone I've passed so far and tells you a good 200m in advance along with the camera speed.

I'm gonna buy an A/C adapter so I can charge it up in the house rather than just in the car, £20  they should bloody supply one with it.

It's class not just for car TT but let's me follow the roads if they're good and not have to worry about getting lost

Absolutely essential kit for the enthusiast driver

Love mine. I bought a 360T for £190 in the cash converters type place in Bristol. It was still brand new and sealed too for that money.
Its my handsfree bluetooth phone, my mp3 player and my speedcamera database. I hooked mine into the car audio system via the cd changer interface and wouldn't be without it.

Tom Tom units not definatley not above the rest, just because they're better known to everyone, doesn't mean they perform better.

The equivalent Tom Tom unit to the Garmin Nuvi 200 is the One GB. The Nuvi unit has a 5 hours battery life, compared to the One GB's 1 - 2 hours and the Nuvi unit has pre-installed safety cameras, unlike the One GB.

Garmin also have a much better returns procedure, why? because they are more confident about their units.

Trust me you have the better unit, I should know.
