Has anyone heard of a new rule that you have to have your gas meter earthed??

We've just had BG come round and new regulations state that all new boilers must be earthed at the gas meter..

Never heard this one. .then why would I?

I take it you have a homecare agreement with british gas?

I must get mine serviced at some point (free anual service). I find that they change the complience requirements every year and there is always at least 1 thing that it fails on.

Yes we do, we had a letter come round stating that they could change our boiler and have UPTO 40% off.. when i fact it looked about 2% looking a the final figures. To replace the existing combi boilier with a condensed combi boiler comes to £3K (with the discount off)... I saw the same boiler in B&Q at the weekend for £800.. You can't tell me that a days labour for a plumber would cost £2,200...

Just because it doesnt come up to scratch with them, doesn't mean you have to get a new boiler.

My boiler has failed the complience test for the past couple of years due to there not being a vent on the front of the unit it is in. It doesn't stop me from using it though, plus the service will also bring up any other major faults.

It's the crazy wiring regs people gone mad again! It's like you have to earch the pipework near every tap and radiator in a bathroom/kitchen it's so you don't risk eletrocution in the bathroom if the pipes happened by some miracle to become live! In the case of the gas pipe it's to remove any risk of sparks from electricity.

More total madness and if you look at the cost versus the absolutelt miniscule number of lives saved we'd all realise it's just another way to make money!

To the other poster who has no vent in the cupboard I would suggest putting one in it could increase the life of your boiler by many years as the rubish circuit boards they put into control these things don't like heat much!

Finally as with most things in life take these comments with a pinch of salt the chances are there is nothing wrong with you boiler or the install they are just looking to make a bit of cash hence the £3000 charge to install an £800 boiler! The Corgi scheme is a cash cow for it's members that needs and end putting too it, there should be at least two competent persons schemes as there is in the electircal trade as it promotes fiar practice through competition.
