Gay men murdered by being pushed off cliffs in Australia

This!

I went for a 2 week holiday to Australia, it's a hole! Hated every minute of it. Mainly the people. They all come across as *********.

I'd love to say the country was nice it's just the people, but I didn't even like the country.

It really did remind me of the 1970s.

Maybe it's the geographical location, I mean they are a bit stuck out the way.

Koalas are cool though.

You managed to see an entire country the size of a continent and make a view of it in two weeks? My Brother has lived in Brisbane for the past 30 years and we have visited often. One area can be vastly different to another.

And how are the natives faring these days?

Not well, for which there are many govt plans to try and correct the course, on top of many social debates as to whether to change things like "Australia day", given that it's such an awful point in history for a part of the population. What's your point?

The average life expectancy of Indigenous Australians before colonisation was ~40-45 years.

It's now ~73 years.

Odd metric to use considering what everyone else's life expectancy in the late 18th century was. Not sure it really makes up for losing sovereignty though.

There's no doubt that xenophobia, racism and other numb skull mindsets are more widespread in Aus than it is many other developed nations. I agree they're about 30 yrs behind us socially.

Not odd at all. It shows that Indigenous Australian life expectancy increased significantly (along with everyone else's) as a result of the technological and medical improvements introduced by western civilisation in the post-colonial era, despite the immediate impact of introduced diseases (which wrought havoc among the Indigenous population). Without colonisation, Indigenous Australian life expectancy would not have progressed at all.

I didn't say that it made up for anything.

Source? What data points are you using to compare 1990 Britain, against 2020 Australia?

And the life expectancy of a non native is 83 years. So what does that tell you?

That of lower socio economic status correlates with lower life expectancy. I'm still waiting for you to make a point, or did you not have one?

According to The Guardian :

South Australian research shows death rate for indigenous Australians between 35 and 54 is six to eight times higher than that of the wider population

That would certainly bend the statistics, they love the sauce apparently :)
