Hi all

Well i recently bought a Nissan Micra 2002 Tempest, done 3,200 miles at the time of purchase and at the time noticed the gear stick did'nt centre but thought it was just the way nissan made it, but i've never come across a gear stick which did'nt spring back to centre when out of gear before, i did a quick google and seems maybe a spring has gone from underneath the car ?

Now i have tried searching for "gear stick springs" but never find anything :(

Can anyone shed some light on where to buy such a part and how easy the job is to do sort of thing,

Thanks

This was a common issue on the Focus and a fairly easy fix....new spring was a couple of quid from Ford and slightly fiddly 30-45 minute job. On the Focus it was an issue of simply lifting off the centre console and then replacing the spring located ont he gearstick lever assembly. I know I'm talking about a completely different car, but I'd assume that it might be a similar issue and one that's not hard to fix. Have you asked around on any Nissan owners forums or anything like that? They might be able to provide more specific help.

Not asked on any nissan forums as thought i would try here first :)

I did read something about having to do it from underneath the car and having to take some heatshielding off to get at it.

I must admit i've gotten used to no spring now lol but i think it would be best if i got it fixed.

I will check again if anything is removeable to get at the spring from within the car shortly.

thanks for suggestion

Just checked if i can remove plastic overing over gear stick and can remove 2 screws and partly move it but there is a screw inside which is holding it down which would be pretty hard to remove let alone put it back on, also i could'nt see anything which was a spring in anyway it was all pretty much sealed up so will have to check underneath the car later.
