Gears of war 4 is coming!

We have an update for everyone.

Microsoft Operations had an issue this morning with their code drop and unfortunately the codes will not be distributed in chronological order as originally messaged. We will be doing another code drop this evening to help address some of the issues. As noted before, codes will be going out in waves as we ramp up our servers through the beta.

Starting tomorrow morning (pacific time), we will be sending out a higher volume of codes to help compensate for this change and due to server stability seen during Day 1 of our beta.

This change and volume will carry on through Wednesday and Thursday morning (pacific time) which will cover off on everyone for early access.

We apologize for the confusion during this process and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in-game during the beta.

Apparently the build we're playing is actually an alpha build and that's why the visuals and sound are a bit rhubarb.

Actually its just about an Alpha build one of the lead design guys tweeted about how none of the textures lighting etc are in this Alpha.
Think this really is about how well matchmaking etc works for them in the backend.
Also Audio SFX isn't final etc.

Good interview about the tech behind Gears 4 here at Eurogamer.

Note this bit at the beginning -

The PC was connected to a massive 98-inch 4K LCD display with the game operating at this extremely high resolution and it looked great. Next to this, however, was an Xbox One S connected to a 65" HDR-capable LG OLED display. Despite the higher resolution on PC, the strength of HDR combined with the remarkable performance of the OLED display resulted in a breathtaking presentation. We had our doubts about HDR displays but, after the demo, we immediately started price-checking HDR-capable OLED TVs. It was that impressive.

I disagree

Betas are by design supposed to be unfinished and not representative of the final product. They are a beta test. A chance to test parts of the game such as server load.

Its just unfortunate that some developers have started abusing this and making them just glorified demos. People have no right to moan that a beta test version doesn't look as good as the release version. Likewise, anybody basing their decision to buy on the quality of the graphics in the beta is mad.
