Out of GeForce 7950GX2 or X1900XT which is the better all round card.

My current gaming res is 1280x1024 however - Everquest 2 being the main game I play is only capable of running on a 6800GT at about half quality with no AA or AF enabled.

I would like to run at full max settings which ask for 512Mb of texture space - 8xAA and 16xAF would be nice as well ;)

And a monitor upgrade is in the pipeline for a long run.

This is to go in a Conroe system I am building.

I'm tending towards the GX2, but how's the volume on it? The rest of the rig will be near-silent.

It depends on if the games you play have sli support, although you don't need an sli mobo as its worked out on the 7950 onboard. If a game has no sli profile then the 7950 will function as a single gpu about equivalent to an overclocked 7900GT with 512mb memory which will be caned by an X1900xt or xtx.

They were also selling the MSI X1900xt for £252 in clearance this week, so you could save the £150 to put towards a new Conroe :D

**emphasise** if your after a very quiet system....get the ICEQ version or maybe buy an after market cooler to fit on the 1900 cards!

Thanks for the advice. To be honest was leaning that way anyway just needed solid confirmation.

Probably not worth asking this but I am right in thinking the X1900XT is faster than a single 7900GTX?

Nope - Slower mate. But better image quailty (apparently!).

Agent.

NO and don't go for an 1900XTX either because when that fan gets up speed its like a hair dryer!

The point being you can put an aftermarket cooler on the X1900XT whereas you can't with the GX2.

I think the 1900XT is faster in some things than the 7900GTX, swings and roundabouts.

depends on the game... the X1K series can render HDR and AA similtaniously whereas the nvidia cards cannot, and if your worried about noise from a X1900 slap an accelleroX2 on it like i did, works a treat pure silence.

You mention a monitor upgrade is in the pipeline; will you be therefore looking at increasing the resolution you play at?
