Geil 6400 just gone up in price by £10!!

Hi there

OcUK took 3000 units at an incredible low price which allowed us to sell at £109+VAT.

We now only have approx 1400 units left from that batch, BUT memory prices have risen considerably just over the last week. Problem with the main IC's getting crushed which means DDR2 memory is in real short supply. Also means the prices have shot up massively. So due to our re-stock cost we have increased our price. But as we do have a lot of old extremely well priced stock left we have put it on offer again, but we won't offer it as cheap as last time because you won't find PC6400 C4 memory this cheap anywhere else. Prices continue to increase and OcUK has to think business and margins etc.

I knew memory prices were increasing so stock our shelfs high with very well priced stock which allows us to have good prices and make high margins but whilst still been cheaper than the competition. :)

Hi Gibbo, so is the price going to go up further? I'm now waiting for RD600 mobo b4 my new build so was gonna wait til then to buy all the parts but if prices gonna go up i may as well take it now and hold on to it?

Hang on, he's just polishing his crystal ball... ;)

How can Gibbo know what's going to happen to prices, in the short to medium term anyway?

Longer term, the prices should drop as something new comes out, but that depends if (as often happens) they stop making that RAM, and then it's feasible the price may indeed go up, assuming demand for it...

I tend to buy stuff when I need/want it, and the savings on RAM aren't going to be massive are they?

Ahem if you look at the stock values or ram manufacturers then follow thier next quarter expectations you will see there is a 99.99% chance that ram will go up, Gibbo is being extremely helpfull by passing on his insider knowledge, don't forget big buyers get looked after by the ram companies, if you need ram buy it now or you'll almost certainly wish you had :D

You are right!

2-3 weeks ago we saw DDR sales drop off quite drastically and DDR2 sales absolutely rocket. This trend is not just OcUK, its worldwide. So from my experience in this trade I placed about £700,000 worth of memory orders with the main manufacturers we deal with, Corsair, G.Skill, GeIL, OCZ and Nanya/Elixir for our value brand. Obviously the great dollar rate makes this all great time for us to stock up as well. :)

After I placed these order literally a couple of days later prices had increased by 2-3% so my hunch was correct. However I kept OcUK's prices low. Then a few more days later the price rose by a couple more percent and this then happened again.

Then at the weekend just gone 35k IC was crushed, demand still increasing and now there is no DDR2 anywhere, its all drying up and quick. This caused pricing to raise a further 10% or so.

What does this mean well it means many places in the UK will run out of memory or get the shock of their lives when they come to re-order and find their buy prices are approx 10-20% higher.

Obviously this will affect DDR as well because now even more production is switched over to DDR2 so less production of DDR will mean higher prices too.

This basically means now that OcUK has generous stock of all lines, OcUK now also makes a lot more money which makes Spie very happy but at the same time we can still remain extremely competitive and do some great deals. Yes we could sell the memory really cheap and make just normal margin levels but that would be very bad business sense. As long as our prices are fair and competitive the margins we make is our business. :)
Thats why I am in charge of all purchasing at OcUK as I know how to make Mr. Spie money whilst at the same time making OcUK very appealing to customers and creating sales.

Today alone I've had two OcUK competitors contact me asking if they can buy some memory from us.............

That I don't know but I bought a 1900XT last week on offer, stunning price and even better this week, they have to be the best value cards in Europe at that price and I can't see them getting cheaper that's for sure, I paid £370 for one only a few months ago, if I were you I'd be very tempted to buy now and save it. I have nothing to back it up though only gut feeling.

DDR2 sales rocketing who could have predicted that with the release of AM2 and CONROE I'd never have guessed ;)

Better be careful and keep Mr Spie happy or you'll get wasted !!!! :p

Speaking of money and DDR2 shortages.... Business is like waves one day its high and the other might be low....

Same with products...

I bought the GeiL DDR2 2GB ram and I dont even have the hardware for it... it was going for an upgrade, which i dont know when it will happen

Whats this about the RD600?!!!

Just received a newsletter from a competitor and this memory is their featured promotion at £153. So still cheaper here at OcUK.
