I have specced myself an upgrade which consists of

E6600
Gigabyte DS4
Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B

Now, I am told the GeIL is the best stuff, but, if I go with GeIL I'll have to pay ~50 quid more for the spec and I will have to pay up the 600 quid in one go.

So, is the GeIL worth paying more for, or is the Corsair RAM just as good.

Nah, the RAM isn't cheaper, but I have a choice of two etailers to buy my stuff from. The cheaper one doesn't do any GeIL RAM tho. So before I buy I just wanted to see if the GeIL was worth me spending an extra 50 quid or not.

Nah it's certainly not worth paying an extra £50 for. The Corsair is just as good, probably better.

The Geil was the stand-out option when it was dirt cheap, but not now that it's in the same price bracket as the Corsair.

Looks like it is the Corsair then!

To be honest it would have gone against all my instincts if everyone had said go for the GeIL, but as I suspected it isn't THAT good to blow an extra 50 quid for.

Thanks for your help Cob :)

Sorry to jump in on your thread but I heard that the Geil ram overclocks in some cases to PC8500 speeds. How good is the Corsair ram at overclocking?

Thank you :)

It some cases the Geil will hit high clocks. But an awful lot of people are having trouble getting over 900Mhz with it.

If you were going to spend an extra £50 then you would be better with some Corsair DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX as it should do PC8500 speeds at 5,5,5,15 according to Yellowbeard a few posts down.

Thanks Cob, exactly what I needed to know :)

on this note how much better is the geil ultra over the geil value? as my current batch of geil value is clocking insanely well! i currently have a choice of :

2x1gb geil ultra - £199
2x1gb corsair twinx c5 - £187
2x1gb OCZ plat - £187
2x1gb geil ultra - £158

i really in need of memory that will do in excess of 900mhz so i can push my conroe! my current geil pc5300 does 850mhz!
