Gelid Icy Vision VGA Cooler

Bought one of these yesterday from OCUK for my Asus GTX480. Fitted it this morning.

Mini Review Below:

Good:
Very quiet even when the PC is gaming 1920x1200 with max everything on gfx its pretty silent :D I can only ever hear my 5 case fans now.

Temps are around 50% less than the stock Nvidia HSF  Currently its not breaking 60C no matter the loading  stays around the 56-58C mark. Fan speed stays @ 44% even under full load ingame it does not rise beyond this so far. I tried Dead Rising2, GTA4, F1 2010. Metro2033 all maxed out with max AA.

Bad:
Takes a long time to dismantle the stock Nvidia HSF carefully (incase you need to put it back together!). I reckon around 1hr for that & another 1.5 hrs or slightly less to put the Gelid on taking great care as obviously if you mess up the card will probably fry quickly :(

The Ugly:
Gelid did not put the correct amount of VRM heatsinks into the package  Its lacking 2 small VRM heatsinks (5 included instead of the 7 mentioned on the inbox instructions) but they included 2 extra much larger heatsinks instead which can be used but they much larger than the chips that need covering so not sure how long the thermal tape will hold them on :(

Weight is about the same as the stock HSF.

Gelid have used some very fiddly little screws which you have to be very careful with.

Gelid have included some 3M thermal pads to stick the heatsinks on. Not sure if these will last for a long time as some feel a little weak.

Overall:
For performance I cannot fault it this is a massive improvement on the stock HSF in every way. Not bothered overclocking but I understand you can get at least 10% more out of your card with moderate OC settings.

Forget doing this unless you have a decent set of phillips screwdrivers as some of the screws are really small & easy to strip if your not careful. Making mistakes here would mean drilling them out of the card  & because of how close they are to vital parts of the card 1 drill slip could mean your GTX480 instantly becomes an expensive paperweight

I was going to wait another few weeks for the new Zalman V3000F but thats going to be around £58 (plus P&P). Not sure you need to spend that much & unless you have a case side window the green LEDs are wasted. The Zalman wil be easier to fit but the £22 difference is probably not worth it as your talking almost £70 with special delivery P&P

This is well worth buying if you want the silence but its also a little frustrating to do carefully because of the limited space & rushing can cause big issues if you strip one of the tiny little screws it could take you ages to drill it out.

Ive also fitted a icy vision to a gtx 480 and cant really say anymore than AWPC has already said:)

Havent tested any games yet , but my idle temps have dropped 15C,does this prove at long last that the 480 is not as hot as we all believed if a decent heatsink is applied?
