Genoa bridge collapse

Terrible, they must have inspected them regularly I hope as it's a port city so there is loads of heavy goods being transported about. Then again, things are a bit backwards there.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if inspections and maintenance were not up to date/legit, it's Italy after all. It'll probably take a little while for them to go over the reasons for it's collapse.

It's Italy. The police are already blaming it on a 'violent cloudburst.'
Bridges dont just collapse because the weather is bad...but they will likely blame it on God, instead of any human element.

It puts into perspective the disruption caused on the M6 through Brum on the raised flyovers, especially Junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and the current disruption on the M5 junctions 1 and 2. If it wasn't for that work being done it could well have happened here, the concrete in the substructure was quite literally rotting away.

RIP to those that have lost their lives, a truly horrendous way to go :(

The worst one for me a was a few years ago when they were doing the Hammersmith Flyover, that was absolutely ridiculous and naturally I whinged about it like a little bitch at the time but suffice to say seeing this does put things in to perspective

Does put into perspective why annoying UK road works are needed, better to be late than to never arrive at all

Wonder if anyone will actually come forward and blame it on the local authority/mob/safety inspections, or if they'll just pass it off to avoid the embarrassment
