Genre Tags — Generated from last.fm

I have recently started using last.fm again and have decided to organise my music. I have been using Picard for renaming but it doesn't include the genre.

I have never been happy with the genre tags. Is there a clever way of renaming these automatically from the details from last.fm? I can't find anything which will do it automatically.

How about blanking them all?

There is no right answer and you'll end up with something between useless umbrella terms and poncey made up sub-genres

I am having trouble installing this. Have trouble creating the folder in the terminal. Never used it before. Must be missing something obvious.

I actually find genre quite useful (only just started organising them last weekend), being able to find music a lot quicker by just going through Genre > Artist > Album root rather than combing through a long list of artists.

I decided to tag the genres myself using mediamonkey for a bit more control so I don't end up with a huge list of subgenres - the problem you rightly pointed out.

Of course my music collection's tiny at 24.3Gb, and I know most people's library is more than twice my size
