Genuinly speechless right now - neighbour just told me something ...

the cats new owner as she had housed and fed it for a year without any money from its owners, or even a knock on the door to see if it was ok.

Look i dont know enough to make a judgement on if the cat was or wasn't well kept before this "neighbor" took it upon themselves to kidnap it, but whatever way you look at this that's what she did.

Was it a liberation of sorts from her perspective? perhaps, but even then she had a duty to inform the previous owners the location of the cat, if she felt that would lead to further abuse then she should have contacted the authority's, to simply take someones cat is just not gravy.

the op admitted they knew where the cat was staying  and at no point in this 1 year period did they enquire about their cat, that is no kidnap at all.

nah, the twist is, the cat Belloni thought they were seeing and eating the food over the past year, was in fact his dad in a catsuit as they didn't have the heart to tell him it was dead. after a year had passed, they felt the time was right.

Then in another shocking twist of fate the 'female' neighbour actually turns out to be his dad who was just using it as a cover to dress like a woman. :p

Staying and coming back, that's common for outdoors cats to do. Also common for them to move into neighbours houses.

but it wasn't coming back, it was dead. I think you seem to be missing this part somehow. in that 1 year period it was no longer alive, it CANNOT of been visiting your house, so in those 365 days, it should have been obvious to you that at no point had the food you had put out for it been taken. that the fuss you used to give it was no longer being given. the bed it slept in no longer being slept in. if you were happy for your neighbour to fork out for food and have it live with them, and at no point did you make any effort to go and visit your cat, then in most people eyes, it is pretty much handing reasonability over to your neighbour. you made no effort to check how your cat was in this 12 month period, you failed not notice the things peoples cats normally do at some point in 12months was not happening (eating, sleep, even just making an appearance), then they probably assumed you just didn't care.

AHH but it did come back, the twist is that it is actually a zombie cat.
The vet had to go all Shaun of the Dead on it with his record collection to make it stop.
