Geohot and Fail0verflow are getting sued

If you bought a new Ford Fiesta, but it came with the terms that you can't swap out the radio, put in an air freshener, change the tyres, use a Tom-Tom, plug in an ipod conector, get a re-spray or upgrade the anti-theft device - would you happily agree to these terms?

Irrelevant. You can do anything you like to the hardware of the PS3.

Can you meddle with the software? No, you can't. Does a car have software? Maybe in the ECU, I don't know. I doubt you're supposed to mess with that either. Everyone stop buying cars, now!

Geohot is a gimp, he's chasing fame and fortune and doesn't care who's toes he steps on. He's constantly winding the community up, wasting exploits and generally being a pain. Would love to see him taken down a peg or 6.

Christ he sounds like a right nerd.

OMG OMG OMG!

Jail this nerd please. :D

This is my last post in this thread because it's just uninformed people trollbaiting.

LOLz.. Thanks for that, how about distilling that into some definitive factual statement applying to this case??

I see no troll-baiting of significance, just two sides to what is as much a moral discussion as a legal one..

Personally, I just agree with the above poster, I hope they just jail him for being an annoying attention seeker..

How can the jailbreaking of an iphone be legal yet jailbreaking the PS3 be wrong?

Both will have had their software tampered with and both have the possibility of piracy, however neither of them can run pirated software from the get go.

That's exactly my point. Homebrew doesn't have to be a modification to Sony software, it can be fresh code, written from scratch - in which case, why shouldn't I be allowed to run this homebrew software on my own hardware?

Thing is it will be stopped next FW when usb updates are removed and you have to do either on PSN or via a disk.

So no more HDD upgrades then, be a shame for Sony to remove yet another feature.

Even if Sony did try that then there is no need for anyone to update who wants homebrew, they can just update CFW.

Use vauxhall for the analogy life time warranty but it's only for the first 100,000 miles plus the car has to be serviced and inspected every 12 months at a main dealer or the warranty is void. You clearly agree to this just by purchasing the car. Just like sony you agree to use there software you don't own it.

It clearly states all this in the EULA that you accepted when you first played your console. Therefore if you break those EULA rules you should be fined/sued whatever !!!

but you dont HAVE to get the car serviced, you can get your mate to service it and its totally legal, however you would simply not expect the warranty to be honored..

If I give you money for an item it becomes mine (unless I'm hiring it or its on a HP agreement).

If I decide to take my new vauxhall and smash it up, them replace the engine with dung thats is my choice... (I would fully expect vauxhall to laugh if I expected them to sort it out however)

You don't update your firmware by usb when you change drive? I can't remember having to do that. I've changed the drive twice.

Sony are basically trying to get information on the jailbreak off the internet.

They're closing the barn doors long after the horses have bolted. It's a futile and pointless gesture.

You do on new consoles (I think anything post 60gb), they removed some built in memory used on the original machines as part of their cost cutting and what was stored there is now stored on the hard drive. Therefore needing you to reinstall the firmware when updating the hard drive.

They have to be seen to be doing something; if they just ignore it it doesn't send a very good message to their partners.

Isn't that what Microsoft do? Well, ban them from Live anyway...
yes they get flagged for a ban, so people running flashed firmware dont go online, but whats microsoft got to do with sonys system being wide open
im amused by what appears to be ps3 fans sour grapes at others modifying their beloved system, which is pretty crap, and i own one, it doesnt bother me in the slightest, i bet some of the people upset about this are even running non genuine windows lol
