German court rules circumcision is 'bodily harm'

First post in this thread, and I don't want to jump into any pointless debates about religion or whatever;

I was circumcised when I was a kid, 90% of my mates were also circumcised as a kid (not all Muslim), and 2% of my friends were forced into a circumcision when they were 9/10. 100% of them are happy and/or glad they've had a circumcision, including me.

When I look at my penis, I don't think "**** I've lost my foreskin", I've never thought that even once in my whole life. I've not once thought I've been "mutilated".

What a ridiculous word anyway, just used to incite hate toward circumcision. According to a popular online dictionary; Mutilation is to deprive (a person or animal) of a limb or other essential part. Severing an arm is mutilation, chopping off a thumb is mutilation, slicing off a piece of overhanging skin from your penile shaft is not.

Honestly, I don't know what magical essentials all your foreskins provide, maybe you can enlighten me on that, now I won't go into every detail but sufficed to say I can still achieve boner. Maybe if you foreskin lovers can provide details of what functions yo can perform with your foreskins I might change my opinion. :p

That's fine man, that's your opinion, but not everyone is happy that they were circumcised. One of my friend's is furious that his parents let it happen, I don't think my dad is very pleased (my grandmother was Jewish, now atheist), and this guy who called on on Sunday Morning Live said it had effected his whole life in terms of his confidence. So it's not 100% of people who are happy. Surely, though, it would be best to ask people what they want instead of forcing it on them??

So you would be ok with a religion having a decree that earlobes should be chopped off of children? Technically that isn't mutilation as per the above.

What are you talking about?

I'm not OK with religion having a decree that anything is chopped off children. I said explicitly that religion has nothing to do with my post. Yet you have managed to think it does.

What reasoning do you have for being glad you've had a circumcision?

Of course not, it's all you know. Perhaps in the same way i don't think "**** i've got a foreskin". However i have thought several times i'm glad i've not been mutilated (I refuse to put that in quotations) with no choice in the matter.

So what about other body parts that aren't essential? You don't need all of your ears do you? What about your lips, i'm sure you could get by if they were half the size. End of your nose? Not essential get it chopped off.

Girls dig it, easier masturbation (obviously i can't compare but it seems like it would be?), great place to store things.. :D

Spoken like someone circumcised from a young age, it's all you know and of course you are going to defend it to others. Penile skin is a naturally formed part of the body, with specific and very valid reasons for existing (have you even read the with the many clearly defined reasons we have foreskin?)... to cut it off is of course therefore to mutilate by the purest definition of the word. But sure, keep telling yourself that its all good.

I was circumcised for medical reason at the age of 4/5, never bothered me, people say you lose sensation but sex is great for me, plus the women I have been with prefer Roundheads to Cavalier.

???

My penile functions are performing fine thank you very much.

The only negative thing is it gets darker from base to tip, so where the scar is it just goes from dark to even darker without any gradient.

A medical reason is fair enough. Similarly, I'm not going to object to someone lopping my arm off if it'll save my life. What I object to is doing it for religious reasons, because a baby is not capable of being religious. It's a decision forced on him by religious parents under the presumption that the baby will grow up to follow the same religion.

I was not a brainless child. I have a brain, I have common sense, I can speak English. As a matter of fact, I started working with computers at 9, and I am now 12.

The fact that, four years later, you are unable to articulate why circumcision is both necessary and desirable would suggest that you would weren't actually able to give informed consent at the age of eight or even the age of twelve.

No one said being cut means sex doesn't feel good, just that an uncut glans is more sensitive, so it feels even better.

And of course women you have been with would tell you whatever you are is their preference, hence me polling friends instead of previous shags. ;)

It would be a very cruel woman indeed who tells a lover "To be honest, I prefer the other type of penis." :D

Im sure your penis is performing fine, but I was talking about the overall negatives of being circumcised, which have already been discussed in the thread.

Fair enough, I meant that by your definition, cutting off a child's earlobes is not mutilation, as they serve no prupose.

I see no problem in ruling that this should be left to the individual to choose in later life, rather than ban the practice entirely.

Anyway, I can imagine once people have the choice, the practice would die out pretty quickly :p

There's risk in getting a vaccine jabs, should we stop them?

I have a scar on my shoulder from a vaccine jab as a child, i dont like it and i was given no choice. Should we ban these as well as i had no made a decision if i wanted it or not?

Really? Vaccines have saved millions, if not billions of lives in the last century or so.

Does it really matter if its reversible, its still mutilation without consent and it causes unnecessary pain. A hole in your ear is mutilation if going by the criteria of circumcision is mutilation.

I don't see how this is an argument for circumcision? They're both bad if the child has no choice in the matter, circumcision however is clearly worse.

In your opinion, in my opinion i find piercings worse.

How can adding something that's easily removable be worse than permanently removing a body part?

I don't think this can be classed as 'mutilation.'

"an injury that causes disfigurement or that deprives you of a limb or other important body part"

Seems pretty apt to me.

Why not go one step further remove the little toes? We don't need them for balance, they serve no purpose. There's the risk of ingrown toe nails, they're the most commonly broken toe and there's all that effort of clipping an extra nail.

You know why? Because there isn't an outdated book that tells us to so we recognise it as being mutilation.
