German sergeants facing cannibalism charges after using their own blood to make black puddings

Two German air force sergeants are facing court martials for cannibalism after drawing their own blood to make hearty black puddings.

The two men, based at a fighter squadron base near Munich, were photographed siphoning off their blood to mix with a mixture of onions, bacon, spices and breadcrumbs - according to the recipe of a grandmother of one of them.

Their efforts were published on the Internet, promptly drawing the kind of response that cannibal killer Armin Meiwes got when he sought a victim to kill in his remote farmhouse home in Germany in 2002. Hundreds of would-ba cannibals wrote in asking them for the recipe.

The men had plans to mass produce the sausages using the blood of comrades and family members they wanted tolet in on their little scheme.

But their commanding officers scuppered their catering sideline when one of their fellow soldiers complained: "I have been asked to give blood for sausage making and I want to know if this is against regulations."

The men, identified only as B, 25, and G, 29, were suspended immediately last December, the German defence ministry has confirmed.

The problem for a military tribunal is that cannibalism itself is not in the German military rulebook. A source at the base at Fuerstenfeldbrueck, where the men worked in the medical department, said: "They will probably have to hit them with something like bringing the service into disrepute or disgracing the honour of the squadron.

"No-one has a clue what they were up to. It's not some weird gay thing - just weird.

"The girlfriend of one of them took the photos that were posted on the Internet using the nickname 'Stillborn', which shows the blood being drained and then them tucking into the blood sausage as it lay on a bed of pureed apples and mashed potatoes."

The recipe for the black puddings was found in the belongings of one of the men after they were arrested. It read: "Make sure the blood is fresh and the bacon cubes diced finely with a nice proportion of fat to lean. Do not use too many breadcrumbs but if the blood starts to curdle stir in a teaspoon of wine vinegar."

The men have told investigators they both had an "interest in cookery" and had experimented making the black puddings on several occasions.

Yummy!:p

Maybe China could use its recources to solve world hunger if the did they same:p

I dont see the problem with this, it wasn't as if they feasted on a freshly killed enemy... It's their own blood.
I could go a black pudding now actually.

I wouldn't class eating your own blood as cannabilism..

They were eating each other's blood and wanted to use the blood of their (rather stupid) comrades to make more either for consumption or to sell.

If they have the persmission of the person being drained and they are well aware of what its for then how can it be a crime, my blood is my own possesion and i can do what i want with it surely?

If the process of ingesting someone elses blood is illegal, even with their permission, then fair enough but im not so sure that it is. Consuming flesh is a bit higher up the scale than making a nice hearty black pudding from someones blood who is quite happy about it. :D

I wonder however if they ever considered the health implications of what they did.... i wonder if HIV and other blood carried diesease is killed off during the cooking process.

fairly confident it is, the chances of catching HIV off a disguarded needle that isnt remotely fresh are minute compared to a fresh needle.
This would need health and safety tbh.. let the blood get old a bit, then cook it to required temp :)

Sounds pretty good to me, just had my lunch but I could go a black pudding.

Your own blood? Fair enough. Other people's? Bit weird, but it's not like anyone is being killed or even permanently damaged by it, and it's all concensual.

So the jury's out really.
