Hi There - :)

Just joined the forum and looking for some help in upgrading my PC.

Unfortunately this silver top is a bit behind in all the latest boards that are going now, and reading one or two of the stickys, am even more confused.

So here's the deal - I have a very old mb ( Chipps mlr810 ) which came out with the steam age, so need to upgrade. The chip that is on the board at the moment is is a Barton 2500.

I have a case, cdrom writer,mouse,keyboard etc so was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction for a new board/cpu/memory combination.

The hardware needs to be reasonably quick ( quicker than the Barton 2500) for general use. Nothing to elaborate as I have to watch the budget. I don't know a lot about this duel core stuff, used to using AMD which has always worked ok for me.

Thanks for the quick reply Alex - will try and read up on spec you quoted.

I think the PSU must be less than 400w, so guess that will have to change as well.

But good to hear there is someone out there listening to my whoes. Hi.

Thanks for the info again Alex - did not think abou the software side of things. Don't think it would be much of a problem for me as I can just copy everything onto a CD. All the other stuff will just have to be re-installed.

The budget should be around that £350 mark, but might push it if needs must.

A friend of mine has just bought a Gladiator Praetorian CS6300 made by Centurion, he paid £599 for it. But for my needs think it would be a bit expensive.

Anyway will keep doing the research, so thanks again for you input.

Nice one Mikka84 ;) looks just the thing I was looking for. It should give me a starting point for reading up on each item. So thanks for that.
