I do worry about the amount of people who think they've stumbled across a genius idea in finding that water melts ice or other similar great defrosting ideas.

Fact is, they're all a faf. Yes I could use the kettle but I'd need to take it back up to the flat again. Or I'd need to drive around with a damp rag in the car, making it mist up inside or smell.

My icy morning routine is open car, lean in to start it and grab scraper, quickly scrape windows and drive off. Takes no time at all, and I guarantee it's less of a faff than most of the brilliant new ideas around here. So what, your hands get cold, not having been born with a uterus it doesn't bother me

Then there is plan b, you open the garage, get in and drive off :D

I'm currently keeping my eye on the market with the possibility of moving to a bigger place next year. Trying to decide whether to move further away from the delights of pubs, takeaways and shops to get something with more outside space for man stuff. BBQs, garages and the like. Can't decide :(

Course its worth it, you need to cop for that girl you been ****ing about chatting up for 7 years, move her in, then you have a reason to stay out the pub, have plenty of BBQ's and space for a garage to shelter the car :D

The girl I'm dating might have something to say about that :)

I don't think I can adequately express my love of the pub and Indian takeaway. Plus, I clearly couldn't give a **** about my car or I'd have done something about the cyclist dent by now

They do delivery and if push comes to shove you convert a bedroom into a mini pub, small bar, set of optics and some beer chillers the jobs a goodun, im just not seeing the problem here :)

Plus wait till you get into BBQ, i of course am king of the grill!

The problem is that is that in sub-zero temperatures, any water you've poured onto your windscreen freezes 500 yards down the road, which means you need the whole 'car running for 10 mins' to defrost thing going first.!
Not needed - After pouring the water over, put your windscreen wipers on. They'll be no water on the screen before it starts to freeze again :)

How many of you get the ol ice scraper out in the mornings to clear your windscreen?
I do.
On my estate (new build rather than chavo),
all of them get the ice scraper out in the mornings and scrape away with the windscreen on defrost for 10/15 mins using up petrol/electricity/elbow grease etc.
So do I but it is nearer 5 minutes normally.
I'm the only person who just throws a cloth (I think it was a old table cloth once) over my windscreen at night, and in the morning, I just pull off the cloth and I'm ready to go with a frost free windscreen / rear screen. The heavier the cloth, the better. Then when I get back from work, I just throw the cloth over the windscreen again, and I'm ready for the next day.
Good for you.
Why doesn't anyone else do this?
Because as soon as I get in my freezing cold car and breathe the inside starts to fog up. After 5 minutes of running the car has a bit of heat that I can direct to the screen to stop this happening.

New estates can't be full of chavs and scum? Sure can.

Damn straight. A lot of older "council" estates are now mostly privately owned because of the right to buy.

Whereas with new build estates, there's a certain percentage that need to be affordable rented and shared ownership

That and HA, which is something like 10% of an estate isn't it?

Depends on the development and the council, some councils are entirely HA managed now.

It's quite common for an association to build the entire estate, sell off some units privately, rent others and manage the SO on others. Mr Davis may well be living in a LOLCHAVSCUM estate without even knowing it

I used to live within the boundaries of the breacon beacons nature park, very nice country but wet and very often a frost over night which when you start work at 6am is a problem.

So yes I was doing this years ago, I used two large pieces of cardboard myself. Anything valuable like a cloth wouldnt have lasted :o
I realised this was best after being late one morning and driving off with a letterbox to see through the windscreen, the roads were empty but still a bad idea to drive like that
