Getting a bed upstairs - arghhhhhh ( DIY related )

Hiya

We have been strongly warned against bending the mattress as this damages the coils, and apparently invalidates the warranty !

you've got to bend it a bit to do it.

It will be fine.

When they say "dont bend the matress"

they think of people leaving it folded in half on a truck for several hours. A few seconds just to get it round the bannisters wont hurt.

We have the same problem. Our mattress is 200kg and 2.4m by 2.4m and we live on the 4th floor lol

We have now put it into storage, we are planing to knock the roof out to extend the size of the dormer windows so we will have to rent a Crane to get it into the flat via the hole in the roof. We will then have to knock a hole in the bedroom wall to get it in to the bedroom.

Jesus man, buy a smaller bed?

Do you live in some kind of love shag pag, who needs an 8x8 foot bed, are you a giant? :p

I had to get a king size mattress up into a loft conversion when i moved in here, and the opening in the floor which you walk up through is approx 600x900mm at the top of a very steep flight of stairs! We folded the mattress in half along it's length and tied it with string (it was literally folded so that the upper face was touching itself!). Anyway, we shoved it up the stairs and cut the string and it was fine - for about two years, then it started to develop an uncomfortable ridge down the centre line and eventually was unusable!

My replacement was a half sprung, half memory foam mattress that came delivered rolled up so i could get it up the stairs. It's not the best mattress in the world however, and i'm looking forward to when we move next and can get a proper mattress again!

But you can bend yours a bit to get it round corners etc. No manufacturer expects their customers to all have a bedroom at the end of a straight corridor opposite the front door!
