Getting DTS/DD from iGPU and motherboard's HDMI output to receiver?

My friend got a PC with i5 6600K and a Asus Maximus VIII Gene motherboard, and although he managed to get sound from the PC to the receiver, he's only getting PCM/2 channel audio on the receiver even when playing DTS content. Anyone got any guide, suggest or instruction on what is he doing wrong or what he needs to do?

Is he using Kodi or Plex?

Both really simple to setup for passthrough.

Well, he plays the video on the PC on MPC-HC.

looks like support for MPC-HC has fizzled out, nothing new since last november, its' wiki is devoid of any useful info

I have the same problem with my setup, it changed since XBMC became Kodi. Even the pass-through doesn't work anymore. Yet, if I try something like PowerDVD I get DTS or DD.

I've stopped using kodi on PC but I know on my Shield TV I had to enable advanced options and then select which formats to pass-through (dts hd, true hd etc).

Just selecting pass-through didn't work but like I said this is on Android so may be different.
