Bidding on a bumper on eBay, I need to repair some minor crash damage on our second car/runabout.

Seller would prefer local pickup only, but states that if I arrange my own courier he will carefully pack the item for me ready for collection.

Anyone used a courier for eBay items of the size and weight of a bumper before?. If so, I'd appreciate suggestions of who to use and a "rough" guide to the cost involved. A mate at work had suggested a company called Postvan.com. He used it before and seems to remember it was about £30-40 to deliver a bumper for his S2 Audi.

Cheers in advance for any ideas.

We had Front Bumper/Rear Bumper/Side Skirts (and some chrome grills/kickplates) for a mini cooper S delievered just through royal mail. Was around £35.

I used Postvan.com to get a diff sent to me. Can't fault then, they picked the item up from the seller as promised, and delivered as promised. It was also a bit heavier than the weight I put on the order, which should have taken it up to the next price bracket, but I had no extra charge

So yeah, I can reccomend them.

Cheers guys.

DreXel, how did you work out what Postvan service to use as far as weight of the items goes?.

I notice they do one that is up to 20kg. I wouldn't imagine a front plastic bumper is very heavy?. So do you just guess at the weight and pick the relevant category of service then pay for it online on their website?. The next category up is "up to 35kg".

Any idea if a front plastic bumper will way over 20kg?. It doesnt have any metal mounting parts/brackets etc, its just the bare bumper.

*EDIT* Oh.....forgot to also ask, does the fee/charge go simply by weight or size as well, as obviously a bumper is quite a large package?.

Yep, you basically just pick the category and pay via the website. I'm not sure about size, I can't remember seeing anything about size limits, but I could be wrong.

Excellent service, I needed the same, they use city-link or parcelforce depending on your preference, I'd recommend selecting city-link. It only cost £12-13 for a corsa front bumper :D

DO NOT use parcel2go, theres so many horror stories about them online I'd avoid them at all costs!

Thanks m8. Had a look at their website, looks pretty good.

How wide etc was your bumper?. I notice in their terms and conditions it specifies a max size of 70x100x70cm?.

A front bumper seems a bit wider than that, or doesn't that matter?.

The size of mine was: length 59" X depth 16" X height 19", whatever that translates to in cm?

Theyre pretty ace, they give you all the tracking details and stuff and city-link constantly update the info on their site, and its pretty cheap too. Gave them special instructions to pick it up before 2:30pm and they did just that.

Cheers.

Ok, kinda got worked out what company I'll be using, either sendexpress or postvan.

I've never used a courier to pick something up from an eBay seller. Can someone explain how it all goes?.

Do I email the guy and ask him when he is going to be at home and its best suitable for him for collection and then go online and order the courier service up for that date and time?.

Exactly :)

Apologies for *bumping* this back up, just wanted to say that I used Postvan.com in the end and despite the bumper being 20cm over the max length specified, they didn't quibble. Picked it up from North Wales on the Friday, it arrived on Tuesday, well packed and free from any damage.

So yeah, I'd recommend Postvan.com, I used their "Express Parcel" service, £10.95+VAT Max weight of 20kg.

Thought this might be useful in case anyone does a "Search" on the forums for a similar answer to the question I asked.

Thanks for the info.

I once used parcel2go.com under similar circumstances for the full length of a catback exhaust excluding the backbox, was a tenner.
