Ok guys I need you're help, now that I've arrived at University I will have use of a fully equipped gym for all my excercise needs and I really need you to help devise me a workout for getting back into football as I haven't played for a while and as a result my fitness levels are quite low, other than hitting the treadmill and cycle machine what else should I be looking to do? Any help is much appreciated, Cheers Tom!

Boxercise/circuit training is great for stamina and all-round fitness :) HIIT/fartlekking is also good for stamina

What kind of football will you be playing? 5's or 11's or just knockabouts?

Aren't shuttle runs quite good for getting your sprints back up? I think I remember Gilly recommending that before - i.e. jog the length of the pitch, sprint the width, rinse/repeat.

Yeah thats a form of interval training and is similar to fartlekking. Basically its sprint for a third or a quarter and drop off to 75-80% for two thirds/three quarters. Rinse and repeat :)

Going to be playing 11 a side for now and then maybe think about the five a side next semester

Get down to the Leeds Rd playing fields and do some shuttle runs/interval training with the guys down there :)

There'll be training with the Uni team if its anything like when I was in Hudds. We used to play their team from College. They weren't very good but they had a team :)
