well, all that about me getting a peugeot and that in my other posts, is a lie! i cant afford so im going to get a ford fiesta 1.1, just wondering whats your views on it.. is it nippy (doubt it) and could it have alloys or something and not look crappy.. Cheers :)

How much have you got to spend including insurance.
And how old are you? :)

Surly you can get something bigger then a 1.1litre

Driving an R reg 1.3 fifi myself (looking to sell soon for something with more oomph!) i'll give you my pov on that, parking & slow manouvering is easy due to size, but you'll sit there looking like you're trying to bench press rik waller as you steer in car parks.

The 1.3 encore i have is the essence of "nippy" happy at 0-50 quick acceleration for what it is in those speeds, nice little town car, and i think you'll be fine there, just on open roads & motorways the acceleration is obviously much more sluggish, 70+ is obviously possible & pretty easy, but a bit of a struggle to get there quickly!

All in all nice basic runaround, will serve you will and parts are easy to get hold of etc..

Alloys really depends what you go for, mine still has the stock none alloys (13" and look like pushchair wheels) but with the right ones it can look ok, but i'd save the money to put towards the car after the Fiesta.

All in all, nice runaround, but not what you'd really want for longer distances :)

Picking up my new car (first) which is an L reg 1.12(the 0.02 makes a difference ;)) summer or something from the MOT/service on tuesday or wednesday

Will tell you what I think then properly. Drove it to the mot centre and it seemed reasonable. As a first car I don't think it is a bad idea. Not rapid, but people looking at fiestas don't usually expect that. Seemed nice inside :)

What's the price?

im 16, 17 in october, and we already have the ford, and as im raising £3000 for a wilderness expertise trip, i cant afford another car. insurance will probably be like 1k and a half so its not possible for me to get another car aswell as paying for the driving lessons

check the sills and inside the rear wheel arches they like to rust. other then that its car 101. engines get very tappety at that age and you cant call them quick.

buy with a mot, keep it until the mot expires and see how much you need to spend keeping it on the road after that. the purpose of a car like that is too earn a years no claims and get some experience.

then treat yourself to something nice.

What are you spending? Frankly the Mk3 was always a bit of an also-ran for it's entire lifespan, I'd be looking at something else personally.

,mm my mate bought a fiesta around an M reg with the 1.3 for about £450 he had to spend a bit on new exhaust (it fell off) soemthing to do with oil and sump...

luckily ones of our mates is the son of a Ford OMC mechanic so he got it put right on the cheap.

he got shot within 8 months of buying because it kept failing in some regard or other.

so dont False economise by buying a cheappy.

spend more and sell it for more imo.

Guess the one i had recently must have been broken then? :/ Mine was the worst pile of turd i have ever had the misfortune to drive, i actually felt bad for the buyer. The car is horrible, the engine is worse. Luckily i only ever had to drive it once.

Its only ok if you have NOTHING to compare it to, even for the money are they are awful. God i hate them. I sound so harsh but i would hate to see someone on here buy one of these awful things.

I had one for my first car, it didn't go anywhere very quickly but it got there every single time. I loved it, may have just been first car rose tinted specs though. :p

Wow!! i've never seen a forum post that actually made my car cry! :D

I'll rephrase what i said i think, its nippy, for what it is :)

I've driven (on a regular basis)

1.6 VW Jetta '86
'94 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7
'98 Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.7 TD
'02 Ford Focus 1.8TD
'05 Peugeot 307 1.6

Compared to any of those, even the Jetta now, is it faster, nippier, no, maybe like Blackstar says it is first car rose tint, I'm 26, drove most of the other cars before last year (passed in 2000) but only bought the Fiesta from my brother last year, i'm looking to upgrade cause it is pretty much a "Just passed" car, but its been a good car this last year, but i'd just like something a bit more "grown up"?

All in all though, its not a bad car, its good for what it is, but i know its nothing special :)

I know if you've driven & owned more powerful cars then its not much, but as a first car, its nice, but yep, i'm ready to make a move, but at 1998 w/ 47K on the clock, it'll hopefully do someone else a nice first car too :)

I have one, no not nippy at all even when it sounds like its trying they speedo hardly moves ;) very reliable though mine didnt and still hasnt let me down once. Costs me £700 to insure (first year) third party fire and theft.
The arches on mine are still fine but the bonnet has completely rotted under and it sounds like a tin can.

Mine is still in really good condition for an M reg car, before i got it it most of the rust was gotten rid of and it was repainted. I only paid £300 for it and was paying less than £500 TPFT at 18 with 0 no claims (having only just passed my test) and a pass plus.

If you get a parent to be the main driver(no fraud!), but actually use the car, you'll get free petrol if you're lucky, and the insurance will be ~£500. It was for us with CIS (Co-op), and named drivers apparently get a type of no-claims too. :)

Unless you need to use the car a lot, in which case your own policy might be better.

What self respecting parent would be seen dead in a fiesta though :D Im just imagining my mum & dad now in one :p

is there any tips on getting a lot cheaper insurance.. cheapest i got was £1450... i put my dad as the main driver and myself as the main driver and there was no difference really.. any hints?

Pass plus, you can often get part of the money towards paying for it from your council. It took money off for me. Other than that, a sex change?

Doing my pass plus didnt change my insurance at all, although only some insurers take it into account. :(
