Getting to Stamford Bridge via Train/Tube

I've never been to London and hardly ever use a train, obviously never used the tube either, so I'm confuzzled! Can someone please explain the route I need to take to get to Stamford Bridge as I'm on a course there in two weeks and need to get travel sorted. I'll be coming from Newark, I assume I'll need to get to Kings Cross and then go from there?

Piccadilly line southbound / westbound to Earls Court. Change onto the District line southbound to Fulham Broadway.

2 minutes walk clearly signposted

45 minutes roughly door to door.
