Giant puffball mushroom?

Would you eat this? Found it next to one of the fields.

I heard they are good if you marinate, breadcrumb and fry?

My other half loves these, she reckons it looks like a good one from the picture.

She tends to slice them thick and fry them in garlic butter, the top half it better for the steaks, the nearer you get to the bottom the spongier it gets.
 
Can't believe as kids we used to kick dozens of these around like footballs. Could have made a fortune in fancy restaurants these days!

Well I ate a slice of it, tastes like mushroom.

I'll slice up the rest into steak sized portions and marinate them for 24 hours in fresh garlic, rosemary olive oil salt and pepper, I'll crush that'll up in a pestle and mortar.

If I'm still alive tomorrow that be dinner.
Im no shroom expert, but mushrooms contain a lot of water.

I would leave the salt to the very end as it will dehydrate it.

I got rid of a few of what looked like these off a dead stump in my front garden. I didn't trust my fungi identification skills and the neighbours dog was getting too interested in them.
