@Gibbo - Vega Preorders?

Moving forward were just hoping supply will improve enough to keep all happy, this week we have 2000+ RX 580's landing, which should be enough to drop resale price to normal levels and let gamers and miners buy them at will, should last a week or two. We've also got some new fancy super fast card arriving as well, my guess is you all know what this is, but of course I cannot say, but there will be plenty to go round. :D

i cancelled my Red Devil golden sample last week due to it still saying "out of stock" and the new card next week

Are you saying that these are going to be cheaper soon because of the new card?

Sorry for my lack of tech lingo.. but 'super fast'? Is that faster than 'Ti fast'? Or faster than one thousand and eighty fast? Or neither?

Assuming we can get one, what are people's limits on price?

I've sold my R9 Nano in prep for this, I've been looking for days at alternatives that don't cost crazy amounts should Vega be mega bucks.

I have a freesync monitor so slightly biased. I think if it comes in more than 575 then it would be tough to justify it.

there's 2nd hand 1080s going for less than 400 and 980ti water cooled units for 350... might even go back and get a Fury X for £340...

Interesting decisions ahead!

Still waiting on reviews before I even consider buying one. It would have to offer something worthwhile to make me switch from the 1070. VR performance especially. VR performance in Polaris isn't that great.

£600 max for the AIO version for me.

I've got a 1080ti in my main system and for my second system, I just picked up a second hand 980ti Hydro Copper with a year and a half warranty in the MM for £300... So I'm not expecting this Vega release to prompt me into a purchase, however I'd love to see some competition on the go just like they've did to Intel, but it feels different... AMD are essentially aiming their new top tier cards in direct competition to what Nvidia have had in the wild for ages.

I hope I'm wrong and Vega prompt Nvidia to up their game.

what has this got to do with my original statement? Or anything I said in my second reply to you?

Heat doesn't lower the lifespan of a product unless it's ran outside it's operating temperature range.
If you genuinely don't get it, I'm afraid I can't help you any further.

Can you or can't you provide evidence that the AIB manufacturers warrant their products to be run 24/7 at maximum operating temperature? Because at least one AIB has already said this isn't how they are designed to be used.

So what I'm getting at is if EVGA (eg) gives a 5 year warranty, what evidence can you provide that this warranty covers being run at the max operating temperature for 5 years 24/7.

What I am asserting, along with others, is that you'd be very lucky to get to 5 years on any card if you did that. Average lifespan if you check the mining forums tends to be 2-3 years, and that's if you replace the fans when they die. Because the fans *will* die prematurely.

I'm guessing you're a miner with a vested interest in selling his knackered cards on when the mining bubble bursts. Everyone who can read knows mining cards don't last as long. As I said, just check the mining forums. They normally ditch the stock coolers anyhow, because the fans tend to go after ~1 year constant operation. Even doing that it seems many miners are replacing their cards on a 2-3 year cycle.

Now if you just game, your card will very likely last a whole lot longer than 2-3 years.

e: Having just caught up with teh thread I can see Gibbo posted this earlier:
But then other miners will cram them all next to each other in a motherboard, in a case and they will all be running on the thermal limit 24/7 at which point the lifespan is seriously reduced and this is at fault of the owner, not the manufacturer.
Will you accept it now, melmac?

Thermal limit = max operating temperature. Run them at this 24/7 and you seriously reduce longevity. Really hope we can put this to bed, now!

Do you think there will be plenty of the liquid variety of super fast card arriving too? :)
