Got a 2GB set of this ever popular deal, but I'm a bit confused over voltages.

It runs at 1.8V atm, but I see a lot of people saying you should put it up to 2.1V. What does this do? Is it like processors in that it makes the chip more stable if you want to run it faster?

Also, I can't find any documentation on what the right voltage is meant to be. The chips didn't come with anything (and if they did I thew it out :p), and the Geil site just says '1.8-2.3'. Any ideas?

If your running the ram at 400MHz (PC6400) 4-4-4-12 which is its rated speed then you should also up the voltage to 2.1v.

The memory is most likely being seen and run at 266MHz(PC5300) and 5-5-5-18 unless you've manually adjusted its settings in the motherboard BIOS. Which motherboard are you using the memory with and have you altered any setting from defaults?

And after correct configuration in the BIOS.

Im using an Asus P5B-E Plus, and the current voltage is coming up as 1.8V in the BIOS.

CUP-Z was listing the timings as 5-5-5-18 however, so that makes a lot more sense. Cheers guys. :D

Those are the SPD timings, you need to set the voltage and timings yourself in bios.

Timings for the ram= 4-4-4-12 & rest as they are.

Ram voltage is 1.8V standard so add +.3 (1.8 + .3 = 2.1).
