Hi guys,

So I recently got a 580 GTX (GV-N580UD-15I) from Gigabyte as an RMA replacement but it seems this card is no better. This has seriously ****** me off now as I've been wanting to game for 2 months+ and haven't been able to. I've just built a new system as well and I can't even enjoy it so I've had all I can take now.

I've contacted Gigabyte and they were doubtful that the card was faulty as it was a new one they had sent to me. They asked me to take some pics of the artifacts so i said I'll just make a video. I have now made 6 videos, compiled a nice archive, uploaded it and sent it to them to download. So they've downloaded it and watched the videos however can't seem to see the artifacts..? Now there aren't just 1 or 2 but multiple artifacts/specs in the Crysis videos. I also have 2 Heaven videos which have big black tears/flashes which you can't miss. I sat on the phone with the tech. guy as he watched the videos but said he didn't see anything, even though I told him exactly where to look and what to look out for.

Could you guys please do me a favour? Please download the archive (it's 168 MB) so it should only take 5-6 mins to download and watch the videos. Then post whether or not you saw anything.

The Crysis videos have multiple little flashes/specs. As for the heaven videos all I'll say is keep watching the top right hand corner.

Please guys, I'd really appreciate this as I can't be dealing with this any longer.

Thanks.

Yeah you can see artefacts literally all the way through all of the Crysis videos, and there are artefacts in the heaven ones too just in the top right corner as the camera goes over the buildings.

Had a look at the videos, saw similar amounts in Crysis to Cleeecooo (look like sparkles), but in Heaven, they look more like the camera is inside a surface or something (top right as it sweeps round the statue), not sure if that's indicative of a problem with the card or the benchmark though.

Those figures for the Crysis vids are about right. If you watch the Heaven vids and reduce the playback speed and keep watching the top right hand corner you'll see the big tears. I managed to grab some screens of the video.

So how did the tech dept. at Gigabyte miss them because they saw the same vids...

The more evidence like the screens above you can get (instead of video), with big markings and arrows pointing at the problems, the better, maybe from a bigger range of sources. Send them to Gigabyte with a polite e-mail explaining you believe the highlighted areas are artefacts as a result of the graphics card malfunctioning and see what you get back from them.

EDIT:
Heartily agree with Cleeecooo.

Hmmm, do you think the res. they view it at means they wouldn't be able to see them? Different aspect ratio maybe? Although I would understand if it was just a few small artifacts, but surely with the frequency and amount present in the videos even at very high resolutions they would be able to see them. Maybe someone with a really high res could confirm as I don't even know if it's a valid argument?

Personally I think they're just being difficult. I'm not going to be wasting my time making videos, uploading and phoning them everyday if there wasn't anything wrong. I would happily be gaming.

I agree that they are being rather short-sighted if they can't see anything in the videos you've posted, regardless of the resolution (I personally wouldn't count it as an argument to use). As they do appear to be being difficult, I would make the problems as obvious as possible for them, even if it is awkward. Hopefully they'll have to admit there are problems then, and hopefully you can get a working replacement out of them.

I've played the videos full screen on my 2560x1600 screen.

I can see the tearing in the top right hand corner in the Heaven benchmark and the glitches (like flashing?) in the Crysis videos.

Right, well it isn't the res. then. You have spotted the problems in both videos.

If anyone else wishes to post their thoughts on the videos please go ahead as I'll be linking them to this thread :)

Make sure you don't appear to be snobby/patronising.
It could be that due to the lighting at the RMA centre, it's difficult to see the White spots.

I'm always polite and patient. Although I'll admit, I'm on a short fuse now. Firstly the problems with the 480, then waiting for my replacement only to find it's also faulty. It's also really hard to capture the artifacts by taking a screenshot as they flash quite fast. This is why I made a video which is surely a better form of evidence as they can see the errors in real time.

Pause the video on he artefacts and take a screenshot of the artefacts from the vid :)

I tried that but hitting the pause button at the right time was also proving difficult. Anyone know a video player that lets you playback each frame of the video?
