Hi all.

I got a Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P of the mm and not sure what ram i should use.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=3005&ver=#anchor_os

From the Gigabyte site.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
DDR3 1666+ is supported with combination of AM3 processors and qualified memory modules, please refer "Memory Support List" for detail memory support information.

The the cpu i thinking of getting for it is this one.

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail

Thanks for any advice.

This ram works fine in that board, it's what I'm currently using.
OCZ DDR3 1333Mhz PC3-10666 Platinum Edition

  • 1333MHz DDR3
  • CL 7-7-7-20(CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
  • Available in 2GB and 4GB dual channel kits
  • Unbuffered
  • Platinum Z3 XTC Heatspreader*
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • 1.8Volts
  • 240 Pin DIMM

Reviews of the motherboard are one good indicator as to which ram is good within their test setups.

For Corsair Ram - 10 different sets of Ram with this board: http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=867642

Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 1333
Crucial DDR3 1333 PC3 10600 2x 2GB Dual Channel
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
4GB G.Skill DDR3 Pi-Series F3-12800Cl7D-4GBPI
4GB Gskill 12800CL9D-4GBNQ @ 1333mhz stable

If money isn't a matter I would look at Corsair, I always find them the most compatable, but you might find the OCZ's what I was using quite cheap.

I am running the same Motherboard for over a year with Geil Value Dual Channel Kit 2G x 2, DDR3-1600 set at 1360 MHz (7-7-7-24-1T) 1.6v. With these timings, it is one of the fastest ram you can get for the price.

The G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 run at the similar timings but at 1600 MHz but at 2T instead of 1T which might make it a tad slower than the Geil and costs £6 extra.

You pays your money and you takes your choice, either is pretty good.
