I bought a Q6600 B3 and it worked fine in my DS3. I decided to buy a Q6600 G0 and when I put that in, it worked fine but then I got a random computer freeze. I reset the computer but it wouldn't boot. So thinking that it must have something to do with the cpu, I took it out and put it back in and it booted and primed ok at stock settings. It has been working fine until today. It won't boot again :( I have tried taking the cpu out and putting it back in but it just won't boot. It came on once and when I was in the bios, it froze and when I reset it, it wouldn't boot again. Everything turns on but I get no display

Do DS3 Rev 1.0's have problems with quads? Is the CPU broken?

Thank you :)

Take out a couple of sticks of memory and try again. Also be sure to set your MCH voltage to +0.1v to boost your northbridge for 4 sticks.

The rev 1.0 965P DS3 should be fine with a Q6600.

The computer powers on but there is no screen, so I can't set the MCH voltage. I will try taking out some ram and see if that works. Thanks for the help :)

An update...

I managed to get it to load into windows but then it crashed again and wouldn't give me an output again. I borrowed a E6300 from a friend and my computer now seems to be working perfectly.

So, what do you think is more likely:

I bought a Q6600 B3 and it worked and gave me no problems. I then bought a G0 and it worked for about 10 hours and then froze and gave me the problem mentioned above. After taking it out and putting it back in, it worked again fine and it had been working well for 2-3 weeks. I got another Q6600 B3 and it didn't work and gave me this problem as well.

So, I had 1 well working Q6600 (B3)

2 bad Q6600's (one a B3 and one a G0)

Have I been unlucky and had two broken cpu's or does my motherboard have a problem with Quads?

Thank you :)

Thanks for the info pointy shadow :)

Another update: The computer has now stopped working again with the E6300 in. Motherboard problem?

This time though the following error appeared:

The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

I don't know what that means  I am also using Vista X64 Ultimate.

Thank you :)

I have been running it at 2.1v. I have tried one stick at a time and in various slots to no avail.

Could it be that my noctua heatsink has damaged my motherboard and thats why sometimes when I reseat the cpu, it works?

Thank you :)

For now (keeping fingers crossed) its working again. I slackened the screws off from the heatsink to the motherboard and its been working this time for longer than any previous times. I will try a stock cooler if it goes again, so thank you for the suggestion :)
