Gigabyte DS3 rev 1 (I think) & Q6600 G0

Yip.

Tho it probably won't clock past 3ghz if that's what you're going to do.

Why wont it clock past 3ghz

How do you know what rev you have?

I've just ordered a P35C-DS3R and want my 2160 at 3

It probably just won't be identified with an unknown CPU message, tho it should boot fine.

Gigabyte themselves list the G0 Q6600 as needing F12 on the rev 1.0 P965 DS3.

Sorry my brain seems to AWOL today but can somebody please explain why this mobo would limit you to a max of 3GHz?

It shouldn't and its rubbish.

Setup my m8's PC with a Q6600 G0 the other week on a rev 1.0 DS3 and it went straight to 3.2 on 400FSB, then after a bit of tweaking it was at 3.6Ghz without a problem.

I myself still use a DS3 Rev.1, it tops out at about 480FSB, more than enough for any Core2 i've thrown at it. I've tested a Quad in mine as well and it clocked it no fuss, and i'm currently running a E6600 at 3.6Ghz, and before that a E6300 at 3.33Ghz...

Nothing wrong with P965 DS3's.

You had a quad prime stable @ 3.6ghz on a DS3 REV 1 mobo?

I want to see pics of the Quad running at 3.6ghz.

The rev 1.0 DS3 had no problems running the dual-cores at high FSB (my E6600 did 500x7 no problem), but the Quads are a completely different kettle of fish. Even the better DS4 craps out at 380-390mhz with the Quads.

Robert let me know how you get on with the quad and the DS3 as I plan to do the same upgrade in the next month or so.
Also what cpu cooler are you using??

I have a B3 Q6600 running in a P965 DS3 Rev1.0 (F12) and it is a bit unstable at 8x400.

I suspect the reason for this is that Vcore drops below 1.300V when on full load. I have Vcore set as 1.40V in the BIOS and when the system is idle it measures 1.376 in CPU-Z.

I am now running at 8x390 and all seems well although time will tell! CPU-Z reports Vcore as 1.312V under load now. My hottest core gets up to about 65C with a Thermalright Ultra-120

It is solid at 7x400 so it doesn't seem to be the bus speed that is the problem.

I might try it again tomorrow with a bit more Vcore to see if I can get it stable at 8x400 but I'm not that bothered really as 3GHz was my target and I can get that without trouble.
