you could get this as a worthy alternative, costs a little bit more but think you would find a little more bang for you buck.

It really just depends on what you want the board to do?

i can get the gigabyte for £123, only really need it to support xfire and take an i7 920 and 6GB DDR1866, doubt i will worry about overclocking it as im sure that will give me more power than im going to need for a while.

The UD3R is a great board, I have used/overclocked one myself and it is a lovely piece of kit. It should happily take an i7 920 D0 tp 4GHz with little hassle and has all the fun features like x16x16 PCIE lanes and triple channel memory that make X58 such a great platform.

The i9 (i7 980X) is s1366, just like the other i7s and it should work fine with this board - just needs a BIOS update.

ok thanks for the response, should be able to order this from work tomorrow or fri and starting building it up soon. then just need to raise some cash for some gfx cards :D but aslong as this board should be fairly future proof for the next 3-5 years then i imagine i would have upgraded around then if not before.

sorry to thread steal a little but does the ud3r have less pcie slots than the P6T SE
as in can you have 2 graphics cards in sli/CF and a sound card like on the P6T SE

all ordered. went to gigabytes site and they have 3 revisions 1.0, 1.6 and 1.7. i know it will probably be written on the board when it arrives but a)is there much difference in the revisions or are they mainly bios updates and b) am i more than likely going to get the 1.7 unless its really old stock?

Buying now you'll get a revision 1.6 or 1.7 board.
There is no difference between these apart from the rev.1.7 having 'European Union EuP (Energy-using Products)' certification.

There is however an EX58A-UD3R board on its way (already on sale in the USA) which adds a few (mostly entirely pointless at present) features:

hmm looking at the imminent arrival of the GA-X58A-UD3R ill definitely be waiting for this board i think.

it has 6 DDR channels, USB 3.0, SATA 3, 4 PCIE slots - its quite an update for, if US prices are anything to go by, similar money.

at worst you'll pay less for the EX58-UD3R as vendors try to shift them to make room

mines revision 1.6 so not too bad im guessing?
sux about there being a new model soon, but dont think the extra features you list i would really use.

right i have updated the bios as the site i bought the board from said i would need to to enable SLI. how do i know if its enabled that feature, is it a case of getting 2 cards and trying?
