Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Intel Retail Fan Wont spin Above 1990rpm. This is with smart fan disabled. This carn't be normal.

On my previous build Asus P5N-E SLi im sure it would spin up to 2600rpm
clocked @3.2.

The problem I have is that I carn't get a good overclock because of cpu heat
with the fan at this speed.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. F6 BIOS

Thanks.

I got a P35 DS4 and i just updated the bios to F8 and its doing the same thing
to me on the SYS_Fan 2.

So i went back to F7 and its at full speed. Using the fan on my 8800GTS cooler.
I have emailed GA but they come back with gibberish

So i sent them one back :)

Could someone please verify what the maximum speed is supposed to be on the retail Intel c2d fans.
I suppose they are all the same on the c2d range.

unless you've changed bios settings, its dynamic the fan speed. as your chip heats up, the fan speeds up. mines got up to mid 50's and the rrp was about 1300 but it cools very quickly at that speed.

I've disabled smart fan in the bios so the fan should run flat out all the time, but it only running at 1900rpm. This carn't be right as my Asus P5N-E SLi used to push it up to around the 2500 mark. I carn't overclock this board untill this is sorted. It gets way to hot!

What chip have you got and what clock is it at now? And voltage?

Fans are different. They don't all spin up the same speed, they use varying amounts of power and theres loads of other things to think of. Is this a new build? Takes a few hours running in for the thermal paste to settle.

I'm running an e2160 @ 3Ghz with stock cooling, 1.3v. Temps are 27 idle and mid 50's loaded. My fan never gets above 1500rpm because it cools down so quick.

I would suggest taking off the heatsink, cleaning the paste off, and re-applying fresh compound. Make sure the heatsink is seated well, and you've put the paste/copound on as the manufacturer has stated. Leave your machine on for a couple of days... THEN, if temps are ok at stock speeds, mess about with o/c it.

Have just turned SMART off in BIOS and the fan is spinning at 1750 max, if that helps ya?

Yes it does thanks.

now raised the fsb to 375 vcore set to 1.3.
now running prime on both cores 100% load core temps 59/60 smart fan disabled fan running at 1900.
so far so good :)
