Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Review

I'm really liking this board, currently working on 4.4ghz 21x210 having got 4.2Ghz stable:-
Click pics for more benches and bios settings.
1) 4.2Ghz 21x200 Ram x8 1600Mhz 7-7-7-19

I got my ram running at it's stock speed 2,000mhz but it needed an extra 0.3vtt from 1.28v to 1.58v to be stable:
2) 4.2Ghz 21x200 Ram x10 2,000 9-9-9-27

VERY nice review, very in depth. However I am wondering as to what relationship you have with Gigabyte, if any?

None other than review their boards periodically same as others such as DFI and Asus.

dammit i just bought my UD5
from what i've seen should be decent. **Official** GIGABYTE 333 Onboard Acceleration P55A Series - P55A-UD6/UD4P/UD3

next month or so from what i've read. Personally I ain't bothered waiting. I got an Intel Gen2 80gb in October, flogged it so I could upgrade to a 160gb one just ordered it today.

Uncore Frequency Needs to be at least x2 Memory Multiplier - Would be nice to see this adjust automatically , but it doesn't so don't forget to adjust it if changing the Memory Multi.

Not sure what you mean by this ?

Thanks.

I went with sata 2 as sata 3 ssds aren't out till next month.

Uncore frequency is in a seperate menu to the ram multi, it's easy to change ram multi for example from x8 to x10 and forget to update uncore. You often find that uncore will run slightly faster than x2 if you look at some of my settings on x8 i have uncore on x17 ie x25+1.

I saved £80 by going with the UD5 over the UD7. Looking at how much normal SSD's cost at present I'll take a guess that you will be looking at over £200 for a 80 Gig SSD using SATA3.

If you waited a year you could have spent 30£ on a SATA3 / USB3 expansion card and for decent SATA3 SSD's to drop in price.

yes easy, which is why i stuck with sata 2.
Been very impressed with the Intel 80GB X25-M Gen2 but It can get a bit tight space wise, if you have a good few apps and games so went for the 160gb. There are some good 128Gb around about 128GB Crucial M225 for example. I thought the premium of about £46 to the 160gb intel was worth paying for the extra capacity.
IE
Capacity = 160/128 = +25%
Cost £46/£283 = 16%
