Hi OC'ers

I have just received a shiney new Gigabyte GA-EG41MF-US2H motherboard and planned to pair it with Crucial 4 x Crucial CT25664AA800 2GB DIMMS.
The board will boot with any combination of 2 of the DIMMS in memory slots 1+3 or 2+4 BUT put all 4 in and it will Freeze at or before BIOS.
I have incremented the RAM voltage to 2.0v, its rated at 1.8v so don't want to push it more. I have also pushed the MCH up in increments.
Even at 1.4 , no boot.

Really frustrating as the board is rated at 8GB capacity AND the Crucial memory configurator "confirmed" compatibility.

I have also re-applied the BIOS and then set the MB back to default settings, following that , no dice.

Set all settings back to auto once more and still no boot.

Really frustrated guys, the memory seems good and the MB slots also seem to be fine. Looks like a BIOS update is due from Gigabyte but I am open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Hey OC'ers

Little update and an opportunity to share some advice to avoid getting in the situation I am in.

Well got some more info from digging in forums about the GA-EG41MF-US2H I purchased.
It does indeed support 8GB RAM but will only support this in a setup of 2 x 4GB DIMMs in slots 1+3 of the mobo!

You only find this out in the small print lol. It supports having its 4 memory slots filled if they are single sided DIMMs, yup you heard SINGLE SIDED!
Not possible to hit the 8GB I need in this situation.

I plan to RMA to OC (my first ever RMA in many years of using good ol OC) and exchange it for a Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L board which small print and all supports Double Sided DDR on all 4 memory slots.

I DO NOT want to get into a Distance Selling malarkey with OC on the return but would rather exchange and pay the difference.
I have treated the goods with extreme care and am well within my 7 working days returns timescale.

Has anyone got experience of such an exchange, been a loyal OC customer for years and have spread the good word in my area!! Hoping they will exchange as I don't want to go down the refund route.

Any comments are appreciated.

Yep thats a standard limitation of certain low end Intel chipsets like G31/P31/G41 you can only have 4 banks of ram.

*edited since someone got in a reply while i was writing!*

Intel chipsets are supposedly able to handle more memory bandwidth, but as mentioned, the low-end chipsets do have this issue... It's the same with AMD processors, the memory controller can only handle 2 sticks (in dual channel mode) for the highest speed available on the board.

DDR2-800, can have 4 sticks. go up to 1066, and you're limited to 2.

DDR3-1066-1333, 4 sticks. 1600+, 2 stick limit.

It's not great, but as far as i know, for AMD, its a very well known issue, and people generally hear about it when they read up on things like this.

If you stand to not lose much by RMA'ing, go for it.
